Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most prevalent kind of liver cancer, remains one of the world's main causes of death. The alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAchR) has been recognized to be overexpressed in malignancies and chemoresistance.

Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Alpha7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Modulators on BV2 Cells
Neuroimmunomodulation, 2020Objective: The development of neuroinflammation shares numerous risk factors and involves many complex interactions which contribute to disease pathology. An important cell type in neuroinflammation is the active microglia cell – the resident immune cell of the CNS.

Selective alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor ligands.
Current medicinal chemistry, 2006Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are ligand gated ion channels of broad distribution and structural heterogeneity. Their functional diversity demonstrated involvement in a variety of neuronal processes (e.g., sensory gating and cognitive function) and generated great interest in them as targets for therapeutic intervention in a ...

The objective was to study the mechanism of nicotine-enhanced migration of gastric cancer cells. Long-term cigarette smoking increases the risk of gastric cancer mortality. Tobacco-specific mitogen, nicotine, was reported to correlate with cancer progression on gastric cancer.

Targeting alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the treatment of schizophrenia.
Current pharmaceutical design, 2010The most abundant homomeric nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the mammalian brain are the pentameric alpha7 nAChRs which consist of five alpha7 subunits, and each subunit provides an orthosteric low affinity binding site for its endogenous ligand, acetylcholine.

The role of alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in B lymphocyte activation.
Ukrains'kyi biokhimichnyi zhurnal (1999 ), 2010The involvement of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) a7 subtype in B lymphocyte activation has been investigated. B lymphocytes were magnetically separated from the spleens of C57Bl/6J mice. The purified lymphocytes were treated with fluorescently labeled IgM-, CD40-, CD16/32 or CD23-specific antibodies and unlabeled alpha7-specific antibody and

In the pressing quest of novel treatments for chronic pain, α7 nAChR silent agonists show efficacy as anti-inflammatory modulators and represent a promising strategy. Recent findings reveal that a sulfonium ion can replace the quaternary ammonium nitrogen as an alternative pharmacophore for nAChR silent activation.

Acetylcholine (ACh) is an important neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain; it is implicated in arousal, learning, and other cognitive functions. Recent studies indicate that nicotinic receptors contribute to these cholinergic effects, in addition to the established role of muscarinic receptors.
