Alternative oxidase (AOX) is a terminal oxidase in the mitochondrial electron transport chain that does not contribute to the generation of ATP. It plays a critical role in maintaining the balance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and ...

Change of AOX1a Expression, Encoding Mitochondrial Alternative Oxidase, Influence on the Frost-Resistance of Arabidopsis Plants [PDF]
The resistance of Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh (Columbia ecotype) plants: Col-0 line (wild type), AS-12 line (plants transformed with the construct carrying the AOX1a gene under control of the CAMV 35S promoter in the antisense orientation) and line ...

Morphological development and cytochrome c oxidase activity in Streptomyces lividans are dependent on the action of a copper bound Sco protein [PDF]
Copper has an important role in the life cycle of many streptomycetes, stimulating the developmental switch between vegetative mycelium and aerial hyphae concomitant with the production of antibiotics.

Objective Although treat‐to‐target urate‐lowering therapy (ULT) is endorsed as best practice in gout management, limited data exist on its impact on health‐related quality of life (HRQoL). We assessed the impact of treat‐to‐target ULT on HRQoL among participants receiving protocolized gout care, identifying factors associated with HRQoL and HRQoL ...

Objective Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon due to the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of the vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.

Alternative oxidase inhibitors as antiparasitic agents against scuticociliatosis
SUMMARYPhilasterides dicentrarchicauses a severe disease in turbot, and at present there are no drugs available to treat infected fish. We have previously demonstrated that, in addition to the classical respiratory pathway,P. dicentrarchipossesses an alternative mitochondrial respiratory pathway that is cyanide-insensitive and salicylhydroxamic acid ...

For the first time, a highly sensitive electrochemical biosensor based on SiO2‐based hairy particles with a grafted PDMAEMA polymer brush containing a quantifiable and large amount of immobilized Laccase is reported. The fabricated biosensor exhibits a sensitivity of 0.14 A·m⁻¹, a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.1 µm, and a detection range of 0.3–750 µm,

In Neurospora crassa, blocking the function of the standard mitochondrial electron transport chain results in the induction of an alternative oxidase (AOX). AOX transfers electrons directly from ubiquinol to molecular oxygen.

Role of ethylene on various ripening pathways and on the development of sensory quality of Charentais cantaloupe melons [PDF]
Charentais melons (Cucumis melo L., var cantalupensis Naud.) in which ethylene biosynthesis has been suppressed by an antisense ACC oxidase gene have been used to better understand the role of ethylene in the regulation of the ripening process of ...
