Generation of induced alveolar assembloids with functional alveolar-like macrophages

open access: yesNature Communications
Within the human lung, interactions between alveolar epithelial cells and resident macrophages shape lung development and function in both health and disease.

C/EBPβ deletion in macrophages impairs mammary gland alveolar budding during the estrous cycle

open access: yesLife Science Alliance
Macrophage C/EBPβ contributes to alveolar budding during the estrous cycle by providing critical signaling to mammary epithelial cells. Macrophages have important roles in mammary gland development and tissue homeostasis, but the specific mechanisms that

HYALURONIDASE ACTIVITY OF ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry, 1968
Hyaluronidase activity was detected in preparations of isolated rabbit lung alveolar macrophages. The enzyme manifested a pH optimum of 3.9 with no activity detected above pH 5. Analysis of reaction products isolated from digests containing low enzyme concentrations revealed the production of large oligosaccharides from hyaluronic acid without the ...

Zwitterionic Polymer Coating Enabled Chronic Dopamine Sensing and Electrophysiology Recording in Free‐Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Application of a zwitterionic poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) (PSB) coating to microelectrode arrays and Ag/AgCl reference electrodes effectively inhibits biofouling and structural degradation. This strategy successfully enables simultaneous, long‐term electrophysiological recording and dopamine sensing in freely behaving mice, facilitating ...

Impaired Innate COPD Alveolar Macrophage Responses and Toll-Like Receptor-9 Polymorphisms. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Dysfunctional innate responses of alveolar macrophages to nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis and Streptococcus pneumoniae contribute to morbidity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

A Hybrid Bioprinting–Microfabrication Approach to Controllable Multitype Spheroid Arrays for Modeling Tumor Heterogeneity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a “cancer‐in‐a‐well” technology that recreates tumor heterogeneity in vitro using multitype spheroid arrays. Combining bioprinting/microdispensing with microstructured culture devices, the system improves drug screening and modeling of tumor complexity.

Copper‐Driven Epithelial Barrier Disruption: A Novel Mechanism of COPD Acute Exacerbations Mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a copper‐driven mechanism of COPD acute exacerbations mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A axis. TNF‐α suppresses the copper transporter ATP7A via competitive NF‐κB/CREB1/CBP signaling, resulting in intracellular copper accumulation, mitochondrial oxidative stress, and epithelial barrier disruption.

Mr BMT Achieves Systemic Macrophage Replacement With Preservation of Tissue Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microglia replacement by bone marrow transplantation (Mr BMT) enables systemic replacement of tissue‐resident macrophages. Despite persistent macrophage and tissue remodeling across multiple organs, core biological functions and innate immune responses remain preserved, supporting long‐term maintenance of organismal homeostasis and the therapeutic ...

Mechanisms of corticosteroid insensitivity in COPD alveolar macrophages exposed to NTHi

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2017
Background Non-typeable Haemophilus influenza (NTHi) infection is common in COPD. Corticosteroids can have limited therapeutic effects in COPD patients. NTHi causes corticosteroid insensitive cytokine production from COPD alveolar macrophages.

Lung microhaemorrhage drives oxidative/inflammatory damage in α1-antitrypsin deficiency

open access: yesERJ Open Research, 2023
Background Animal models using intratracheal instillation show that elastase, unopposed by α1-antitrypsin (AAT), causes alveolar damage and haemorrhage associated with emphysematous changes.
