Menkes Maple Syrup Urine Disease: Treatment

open access: yesPediatric Neurology Briefs, 1991
Five patients with maple syrup urine disease were treated intra-venously with branched-chain amino acid-free solution of amino acids during nine episodes of acute illness and are reported from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, PA.

Azobenzene's Cross‐Scale Optics and Photonics: Molecular Photoswitching, Mesoscopic Material Motions, and Adaptive Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Azobenzene photoswitches translate molecular‐scale E/Z photoisomerization into macroscopic material responses and device‐level photonic functions. This Review highlights how azobenzene research has evolved from molecular photochemistry to photoalignment, mass migration, photomechanics, and heat release, ultimately enabling holography, reconfigurable ...

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Norvaline is accumulated after a down-shift of oxygen in Escherichia coli W3110

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2008
Background Norvaline is an unusual non-proteinogenic branched-chain amino acid which has been of interest especially during the early enzymological studies on regulatory mutants of the branched-chain amino acid pathway in Serratia marcescens.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Cloning, Expression, Enzymatic Characterization and Mechanistic Studies of M13 Mutant Acetohydroxyacid Synthase That Rescues Valine Feedback Inhibition

open access: yesFermentation
Acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) is a key enzyme in the first step of the branched-chain amino acid synthesis pathway, and the production of acetohydroxybutyrate from one molecule of 2-ketobutyric acid and one molecule of pyruvate.

Phase‐Pure and Size‐Tunable Tin Halide Perovskite Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A trioctylphosphine oxide modulated protocol allows for the synthesis and study of the optical properties of a broad library of tin halide perovskite quantum dots across multiple A‐ and X‐site compositions with precise size tuning while eliminating unwanted 2D phases.

Uptake of Prochlorococcus‐derived metabolites by Alteromonas macleodii MIT1002 shows high levels of substrate specificity

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters
Seawater contains small biomolecules, or metabolites, that are highly labile components of dissolved organic matter (DOM). Marine microbes interact by exchanging metabolites, thus shaping marine microbial ecology, DOM composition, and global carbon ...

Decreased Consumption of Branched-Chain Amino Acids Improves Metabolic Health

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Protein-restricted (PR), high-carbohydrate diets improve metabolic health in rodents, yet the precise dietary components that are responsible for these effects have not been identified. Furthermore, the applicability of these studies to humans is unclear.
