Polyalkoxy Nitrones as Chiral Building Blocks in Asymmetric Synthesis

open access: yesMolecules, 1999
Optically active nitrones derived from both aldoses and dialdoses add metallated heterocycles in a stereocontrolled way depending on the nature of the Lewis acid used as a precomplexing agent of the nitrone.

New insights in amino sugar metabolism by the gut microbiome

open access: yesGut Microbes
Gut microorganisms inhabiting the intestinal tract play key roles in host’s health and disease. A properly functioning gut microbiome requires the availability of adequate carbon, nitrogen and energy sources.

Changes in plant lignin components and microbial necromass matter with subtropical forest restoration

open access: yesGeoderma
Soil organic carbon (SOC) represents the largest carbon reservoir in terrestrial ecosystems. Therefore, understanding how to enhance SOC is crucial for the global carbon cycle and atmospheric CO2 removal. While there has been reported on SOC accumulation

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Analysis of sugars and amino acids in aphid honeydew by hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography – Mass spectrometry

open access: yesMethodsX, 2020
Past analyses of sugar and amino acid composition of aphid honeydews have been completed using diverse instrumentation. Here we report the use of hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) coupled with a triple quadrupole mass spectrometric ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...
