Soil fungi are known to contain a rich variety of defense metabolites that allow them to compete with other organisms (fungi, bacteria, nematodes, and insects) and help them occupy more preferential areas at the expense of effective antagonism.

Synthesis of Dehydrodipeptide and N-ethyl-dehydrodipeptide Derivatives with an α-Aminoisobutyric Acid Residue [PDF]
Several dipeptides with an N-benzyloxycarbonyl or an N-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl) α-aminoisobutyric acid residue and a β-hydroxyamino acid methyl ester were subjected to dehydration to form dehydrodipeptide derivatives.

Metabolic Modulation Predicts Heart Failure Tests Performance [PDF]
The metabolic changes that accompany changes in Cardiopulmonary testing (CPET) and heart failure biomarkers (HFbio) are not well known. We undertook metabolomic and lipidomic phenotyping of a cohort of heart failure (HF) patients and utilized Multiple ...

Alpha-aminoisobutyric acid uptake in primary cultures of astrocytes [PDF]
Homotypically pure cultures of rat brain astrocytes were used to examine some aspects of non-neuronal A-system (alanine preferring) amino acid uptake. The A-system specific probe, alpha-aminoisobutyric acid is transported rapidly, and a steady state distribution ratio of 9-25 is reached after 30 minute incubations. Kinetic estimates derived from uptake

C‐Terminal Nucleobase Modification Amplifies Peptide‐Mediated Liposome Fusion
Let's come together right now. Cationic peptides are known to promote aggregation of negatively charged liposomes through electrostatic interaction. The process is reversible: once neutrality is achieved, liposomes disaggregate. Here, we demonstrate that end‐capping peptides with nucleobases turns the process into irreversible fusion.

Solvent Effects on the Conformational Preferences of 2,6‐Pyridylcarboxamide Foldamers
The marked effect of organic solvents and water/methanol mixtures on the conformational preferences of a soluble chiral foldamer has been established in a diverse array of seventeen distinct environments. ABSTRACT The marked influence of organic solvents and water on the conformational preferences of a chiral, soluble 2,6‐pyridylcarboxamide foldamer ...

The cationic tetradecapeptide mastoparan as a privileged structure for drug discovery: Enhanced antimicrobial properties of mitoparan analogues modified at position-14 [PDF]
Mastoparan (MP) peptides, distributed in insect venoms, induce a local inflammatory response post envenomation. Most endogenous MPs share common structural elements within a tetradecapeptide sequence that adopts an amphipathic helix whilst traversing ...

Polymeric and molecular amines embedded in hygroscopic matrices to facilitate CO2 transport for CO2/H2 separation. Abstract This work dealt with composite membranes comprising of polyvinylamine (PVAm) and triethylenetetramine (TETA) embedded in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) for CO2/H2 separation via facilitated transport of CO2, where polymeric and ...

Rapid Optimization of Mcl-1 Inhibitors using Stapled Peptide Libraries Including Non-Natural Side Chains [PDF]
Alpha helices form a critical part of the binding interface for many protein-protein interactions, and chemically stabilized synthetic helical peptides can be effective inhibitors of such helix-mediated complexes.
