The immunotherapy of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesImmunity & Ageing, 2004
Only a small percentage of patients with Alzheimer's disease benefit from current drug therapy and for only a relatively short time. This is not surprising as the goal of these drugs is to enhance existing cerebral function in Alzheimer patients and not ...

Casuarictin: A new herbal drug molecule for Alzheimer's disease as inhibitor of presenilin stabilization factor like protein

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. In this disease neurodegeneration occurs due to deposition of aggregated amyloid-beta plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (hyperphosphorylated tau proteins).

A Physiological Role for Amyloid Beta Protein: Enhancement of Learning and Memory

open access: yes, 2008
Amyloid beta protein (A[beta]) is well recognized as having a significant role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The reason for the presence of A[beta] and its physiological role in non-disease states is not clear.

Tau protein, A beta 42 and S-100B protein in cerebrospinal fluid of patients with dementia with Lewy bodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The intra vitam diagnosis of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is still based on clinical grounds. So far no technical investigations have been available to support this diagnosis.

Multifunctional Gold Nanocluster‐Based PROTAC System for Targeted Degradation of Phosphorylated Tau and Modulation of Neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a novel proteolysis‐targeting chimera (PROTAC) system conjugated to lipoic acid gold nanoclusters (PLANC), designed to degrade pTau, regulate inflammatory signaling, and effectively traverse the blood‐brain barrier (BBB). PLANC degraded pTau at various phosphorylation sites, with mechanistic studies confirming proteasome‐mediated degradation

A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

Analysis of Toxic Amyloid Fibril Interactions at Natively Derived Membranes by Ellipsometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
There is an ongoing debate regarding the culprits of cytotoxicity associated with amyloid disorders. Although small pre-fibrillar amyloid oligomers have been implicated as the primary toxic species, the fibrillar amyloid material itself can also induce ...

Photothermal‐Activated Antibacterial Amyloid‐Polyphenol‐Iron Hydrogels for Synergistic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We report a thermally triggered supramolecular hydrogel (LTFe) formed by Fe3+ and tannic acid on lysozyme amyloid fibrils. Fe3+ enables rapid gelation and photothermal transduction with an efficiency of 88.56%. The LTFe hydrogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility, potent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S.

Consequences of the interaction of amyloid beta with amyloid binding alcohol dehydrogenase and the receptor for advanced glycation end products

open access: yes, 2008
Amyloid beta (Aβ) has been postulated to be the principle initiator of the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Therefore, understanding the underlying mechanisms of Aβ induced neurotoxicity in the early stages of AD would be essential for finding ...
