Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Line‐transient enhancement techniques for multi‐path hybrid DC–DC converter with <1% output overshoot/undershoot

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2022
This letter presents two transient enhancement techniques for multi‐path switched‐capacitor‐inductor (MP‐SCI) hybrid DC–DC converters to eliminate the line‐transient‐induced voltage coupling to the converter output.

Integrated analogue–digital control circuit for photonic switch matrices

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2016
An analogue–digital circuit for thermal control of the resonance frequency of optical ring resonators is suggested. This approach is characterised by a low power dissipation of 209 µW and needs only 2800 µm 2 of chip area in 0.16 µm CMOS technology.

A systematic approach to circuit design and analysis: classification of Two-VCCS Circuits [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This paper discusses a systematic approach to the design and analysis of circuits, using a transconductor or voltage controlled current source (VCCS) as a building block.

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Demand Response Strategy Based on Reinforcement Learning and Fuzzy Reasoning for Home Energy Management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
As energy demand continues to increase, demand response (DR) programs in the electricity distribution grid are gaining momentum and their adoption is set to grow gradually over the years ahead. Demand response schemes seek to incentivise consumers to use

CSF Levels of NPTX2 Are Associated With Less Brain Atrophy Over Time in Cognitively Unimpaired Individuals

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Neuronal pentraxin 2 (NPTX2) is a synaptic protein involved in synaptic plasticity and regulation of neuronal excitability. Lower baseline cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) NPTX2 levels have been shown to be associated with an earlier onset of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a pre‐dementia syndrome, even after CSF Alzheimer's Disease (AD)
