Effect of video‐based game therapy on activation of scapular muscles in children with thoracic hyperkyphosis

open access: yesPM&R, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Game‐based rehabilitation has been shown to support motor control and muscle activation in children; therefore, video‐based gaming may represent a promising rehabilitation approach for targeting scapular muscles. Objective To examine the effects of video‐based game therapy on scapular muscle activation, strength, and upper extremity

A walk in the park—Identifying healthy greenspaces using scents

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
As urbanisation accelerates globally, access to nature is increasingly recognised as vital for public health and wellbeing. We captured and analysed plant‐emitted airborne ‘scent signatures’ across Oxford's urban greenspaces to assess their potential health relevance.

Breaking Alzheimer's Disease Barrier: The Role of Xanthoceras sorbifolia Bunge Oil in Gut‐Brain Axis and TLR4/Myd88/MAPK Pathway Inhibition

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder associated with cognitive decline and neuroinflammation. Xanthoceras sorbifolia Bunge oil (XSBO), a woody plant oil rich in bioactive fatty acids, has shown potential health benefits.

Intravenous application of a primary sevoflurane metabolite improves outcome in murine septic peritonitis: first results.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Volatile anesthetics are known to have immunomodulatory effects in conditions of organ injury. A recent study in an experimental sepsis model has shown remarkably improved survival when mice were exposed to volatile anesthetics.

Volatile anesthetics mimic cardiac preconditioning by priming the activation of mitochondrial K(ATP) channels via multiple signaling pathways.

open access: yes, 2002
BACKGROUND Volatile anesthetics induce pharmacological preconditioning in cardiac tissue. The purpose of this study was to test whether volatile anesthetics mediate this effect by activation of the mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium

Bio‐Compatible Flexible Memristive Devices Enabled by BNNT/MWCNT–ZnO Quantum Dot Hybrid Percolation Networks

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
BNNT rods incorporated into MWCNT–ZnO quantum dot networks regulate charge transport and suppress leakage in flexible, transparent resistive memory devices. The resulting hybrid architecture preserves nonvolatile switching under static bending and after low‐temperature exposure and subcutaneous implantation.

Synthesis, modification, and chlorhexidine loading of polymer modified‐HM‐HAP particles: In vivo antibacterial analysis and cell cytotoxicity assessment

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
This study presents the synthesis of hollow mesoporous hydroxyapatite (HM‐HAP) particles modified with different weights PEG and PEI. Chlorhexidine was loaded onto the particles. SEM analysis confirmed no significant morphological changes. Antibacterial activity was tested in vitro and in vivo using mouse oral bacteria, demonstrating promising results.

Volatile anesthetics in cardiac surgery: the impalpable benefit

open access: yes, 2018
Nowadays, there are numerous studies demonstrating that volatile anesthetics reduce mortality and morbidity with a cardio-protective effect. The mechanisms involved in protecting perioperative cardiac ischemic damage provided by desflurane and ...

Agricultural Fungicide Mancozeb in Leaf Litter Enhances Survival and Growth of Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mancozeb is one of the most widely used agricultural fungicides, exhibiting strong efficacy against a broad spectrum of phytopathogenic fungi. However, its widespread application comes at the cost of environmental contamination. Here, we show the effects of Inga vera leaf litter contamination with Mancozeb on life‐history traits of Aedes ...
