Development of a Computationally Optimized Model of Cancer-induced Angiogenesis through Specialized Cellular Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Angiogenesis, the development of new vasculature, is a critical process in the growth of new tumors. Driven by a goal to understand this aspect of cancer proliferation, I develop a discrete computationally optimized mathematical model of angiogenesis that specializes in intercellular interactions.

PTHrP treatment of colon cancer cells promotes tumor associated-angiogenesis by the effect of VEGF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We showed that Parathyroid Hormone-related Peptide (PTHrP) induces proliferation, migration, survival and chemoresistance via MAPKs and PI3K/AKT pathways in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells.

Angiogenic and angiostatic factors in renal scleroderma-associated vasculopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: The angiogenesis in systemic sclerosis (SSc) is impaired. An imbalance of pro-angiogenic factors and angiogenesis inhibitors has been implicated in the progression of peripheral microvascular damage, defective vascular repair and fibrosis ...

Evaluation of KRAS and NRAS mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer: an 8‐year study of 10 754 patients in Turkey

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This nationwide study evaluated KRAS and NRAS mutations in 10 754 Turkish patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. The results revealed a mutation frequency of 51.1%, with 46.6% having KRAS mutations, 4.5% having NRAS mutations, and 48.5% being wild‐type for both.

A Spatial Model of Tumor-Host Interaction: Application of Chemotherapy [PDF]

open access: yesMath. Biosci. Eng. 6(3):521-545, 2009, 2008
In this paper we consider chemotherapy in a spatial model of tumor growth. The model, which is of reaction-diffusion type, takes into account the complex interactions between the tumor and surrounding stromal cells by including densities of endothelial cells and the extra-cellular matrix.

Role of Matrix Metalloproteinases in Angiogenesis and Cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2019
During angiogenesis, new vessels emerge from existing endothelial lined vessels to promote the degradation of the vascular basement membrane and remodel the extracellular matrix (ECM), followed by endothelial cell migration, and proliferation and the new

Mutated TP53 is a marker of increased VEGF expression: analysis of 7,525 pan-cancer tissues. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Anti-angiogenic therapies are an important class of anti-cancer treatment drugs. However, their efficacy is limited to certain tumors and would benefit from identifying a biomarker predictive of therapeutic response.

Heterocyclic scaffolds as promising anticancer agents against tumours of the central nervous system: Exploring the scope of indole and carbazole derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Tumours of the central nervous system are intrinsically more dangerous than tumours at other sites, and in particular, brain tumours are responsible for 3% of cancer deaths in the UK. Despite this, research into new therapies only receives 1% of national

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.
