Long-term habituation (LTH) in the crab Chasmagnathus: a model for behavioral and mechanistic studies of memory

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1997
A decade of studies on long-term habituation (LTH) in the crab Chasmagnathus is reviewed. Upon sudden presentation of a passing object overhead, the crab reacts with an escape response that habituates promptly and for at least five days. LTH proved to be

Identification of hepta-histidine as a candidate drug for Huntington's disease by in silico-in vitro- in vivo-integrated screens of chemical libraries. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We identified drug seeds for treating Huntington's disease (HD) by combining in vitro single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy, in silico molecular docking simulations, and in vivo fly and mouse HD models to screen for inhibitors of abnormal ...

Therapeutic Gases in Biomedicine: Updates on Nitric Oxide and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Therapeutic gases, including NO, CO, H2S, H2, CO2, O2, and Xe, play vital roles in cellular signaling and repair. This review highlights the emerging carriers and delivery systems that enable controlled, localized gas release for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 and Neuroinflammation

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2017
Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) effects on aging and neurodegeneration is still controversial. However, it is widely admitted that IGF-1 is involved in the neuroinflammatory response.

Onset of experimental severe cardiac fibrosis is mediated by overexpression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) 2 is a recently identified homologue of ACE. There is great interest in the therapeutic benefit for ACE2 overexpression in the heart.

TrxR2 Lactylation Facilitates Mitochondrial Protection and Endothelial Ferroptosis Resistance in Diabetic Cardiomyopathy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TrxR2 deletion in diabetic mice suppresses TUFM‐AMPK‐FUNDC1‐dependent mitophagy in endothelial cells, resulting in SCP2 upregulation and mitochondrial translocation of ACSL4. Mitochondrial ACSL4 promotes mitochondrial eicosanoid biosynthesis and ferroptosis, thereby aggravating cardiac microvascular injury and diabetic cardiomyopathy.

Effects of candesartan, an angiotensin II receptor type I blocker, on atrial remodeling in spontaneously hypertensive rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hypertension-induced structural remodeling of the left atrium (LA) has been suggested to involve the renin–angiotensin system. This study investigated whether treatment with an angiotensin receptor blocker, candesartan, regresses atrial remodeling in ...

Tumor‐Induced Splenic Remodeling: Mechanisms of Systemic Immunosuppression and Emerging Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the transformative impact of cancer immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint blockade, durable clinical responses remain limited. Increasing evidence indicates that antitumor immunity is governed not only by the tumor microenvironment, but also by systemic immune regulation mediated by peripheral immune organs. Among these, the spleen
