The angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker valsartan attenuates graft vasculopathy

Basic Research in Cardiology, 2004
Transplant arteriosclerosis remains the major cause of graft failure after cardiac transplantation. Here, we investigated the effects of the angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker valsartan on the development of transplant arteriosclerosis in a murine model of cardiac transplantation.Hearts from DBA/2 (H-2(d)) mice were heterotopically transplanted ...

Effect of angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker on osteoporotic rat femurs

Pharmacological Reports, 2012
Osteoblasts and osteoclasts are known to express Ang II type I (AT1) receptor in cell cultures, suggesting the existence of local renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in bone. This study was designed to investigate the effects of losartan as AT1 receptor blocker on ovariectomized rats' femur.Losartan (5 mg/kg/day) was administered via oral gavage for 8 weeks.

Angiotensin‐converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers after renal transplantation

Clinical Transplantation, 2009
Abstract:  Renin‐angiotensin system blockade retards the progression of diabetic and non‐diabetic chronic kidney disease of the native kidneys. Though most patients suffer from a significant renal insufficiency (chronic kidney disease stage III) and a concomitant heart disease after renal transplantation, there is up to now no evidence supporting the ...

The role of angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers in the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus

Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, 2006
Angiotensin II Receptor blockers (ARBs) are an important addition to the current range of medications available for treating a wide spectrum of diseases including cardiovascular diseases. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause of death in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

Vascular protection in diabetes: a pharmacological view of angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers

Acta Diabetologica, 2005
Vascular protection is key to reducing the morbidity associated with diabetes. Angiotensin II is known to exert a variety of deleterious effects on the vasculature, and this is likely to be a major explanation of the protective benefits observed with blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS).
