Bixa orellana LIPIDS AS A SOURCE OF GERANYLGERANIOL: EXTRACTION TECHNIQUES AND CHARACTERIZATION [PDF]

open access: yesQuímica Nova
Bixa orellana L., known as annatto, is a plant in the Bixaceae family, widely used for its seeds rich in carotenoids, such as bixin (a natural dye) and geranylgeraniol (GGOH), an isoprenoid of interest for health and agriculture. This study evaluated the

Genome-wide identification and characterization of the carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase gene family in Bixa orellana L.

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Bixa orellana L. is the primary source of the apocarotenoid bixin, whose biosynthesis is predicted to be initiated by carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs). A genome-wide analysis was conducted to identify nonredundant CCD genes in B.

[Annatto: technological advances and perspectives].

open access: yesArchivos latinoamericanos de nutricion, 2000
Colorants derived from the seeds of annatto (Bixa orellana, L.) are extensively used in the food industry. Their pecular characteristics, as that which permits obtaining water-soluble and lipid-soluble colorants through small alterations of the production process, was one of the factors responsible for the success of this pigment.
