Placenta‐derived extracellular vesicles: Signal messengers shuttling across the maternal‐fetal barrier

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, Volume 4, Issue 2, March 2026.
In normal pregnancy, PEVs help maintain maternal–fetal immune tolerance while enabling controlled immune activation, promote endothelial migration, and support trophoblast invasion and syncytialization, strengthening antimicrobial defense. In pregnancy‐related disorders, dysregulated PEV signaling may drive endothelial dysfunction and hypertension, BBB

Anoctamin‐1 channel localization in excitable domains of the heart (893.23)

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2014
Calcium‐activated chloride (Cl Ca ) currents are widely distributed in cardiac tissues and have been implicated to play a role in cardiac physiology and pathophysiology. Anoctamin‐1 (Ano1) is a membrane protein that functions as a Cl Ca channel and has ...

TMEM16A Contributes to Calcium‐Activated Chloride Currents and Membrane Potential Changes in the Mouse Oocyte

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 241, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Oscillations in intracellular Ca2+ [Ca2+]i are essential for mouse oocyte activation following fertilization. These [Ca2+]i oscillations also induce repetitive hyperpolarizations in the membrane potential (Em). The present study aimed to identify the channels underlying the Em hyperpolarizations.

Treg cells retain stable lineage commitment during pregnancy in mice after late gestation inflammatory challenge

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, Volume 104, Issue 3, Page 276-311, March 2026.
In this study, we used Foxp3‐fatemapping mice to examine the cell lineage stability of Treg cells in pregnancy. Ex‐Foxp3 cells were identified in gestational tissues. However, Treg cells retained lineage stability with no increased ex‐Foxp3 generation, regardless of inflammatory challenges that induce preterm birth.

Rare variants in ANO1, encoding a calcium-activated chloride channel, predispose to moyamoya disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Moyamoya disease, a cerebrovascular disease leading to strokes in children and young adults, is characterized by progressive occlusion of the distal internal carotid arteries and the formation of collateral vessels. Altered genes play a prominent role in

Differential expression of anoctamin 1 in human epithelial ovarian cancer.

open access: yes, 2021
Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecologic cancer (1). We performed discovery of genes associated with epithelial ovarian cancer and of the high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) subtype, using published and public microarray data (2, 3) to compare global gene expression profiles of normal ovary or fallopian tube with that of ...

Anoctamin 1 is Apically Expressed on Thyroid Follicular Cells and Contributes to ATP- and Calcium-Activated Iodide Efflux

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2014
Background/Aims: Iodide efflux from thyroid cells into the follicular lumen is essential for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, however, the pathways mediating this transport have only been partially identified.

LOCALISATION OF THE INTERSTITIAL CELLS OF CAJAL IN RAINBOW TROUT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) are primarily placed in the gastrointestinal tract, where they play a crucial role in the initiation and control of motility by operating as pacemaker cells. They also have a role in neurotransmission.

Control of Ion Transport by Tmem16a Expressed in Murine Intestine

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Cl– secretion by the human and murine intestinal epithelium occurs through the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (cftr). However, the Ca2+ activated Cl– channel Tmem16a was shown to contribute to Cl– secretion, mainly, but not ...
