Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

Protective Effects of Nintedanib against Polyhexamethylene Guanidine Phosphate-Induced Lung Fibrosis in Mice

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Nintedanib (NDN), a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has been shown to have anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic effects in several reports. We investigated the protective effects of NDN against polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate (PHMG)-induced ...

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

The Transcriptome of Human Endometrial Mesenchymal Stem Cells Under TGFβR Inhibition Reveals Improved Potential for Cell-Based Therapies

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2018
Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells with favorable properties for cell therapies and regenerative medicine. Human endometrium harbors a small population of perivascular, clonogenic MSCs (eMSCs) identified by the SUSD2 marker.

Anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects of corilagin in a rat model of acute cholestasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Nowadays, treatments for cholestasis remain largely nonspecific and often ineffective. Recent studies showed that inflammatory injuries and oxidative stress occur in the liver with cholestasis.

A 73‐Year‐Old Man With Several Years of Difficulty Climbing Stairs and Frequent Tripping

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 73‐year‐old man presented with progressive weakness and atrophy predominantly affecting the distal finger flexors and quadriceps muscles. Electrophysiological studies demonstrated mixed myogenic and neurogenic features. Muscle MRI showed inflammatory changes, and muscle biopsy revealed granulomatous myositis with histologic features ...

Assessment of Skin in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis Using High‐Frequency Ultrasound and Shear Wave Elastography: A Comparative Study With Histology, Molecular, and Clinical Parameters

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Ultrasound (US) has been proposed as a potential tool for assessing skin fibrosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc). However, a large‐scale comparison of US‐based assessment with histologic markers of skin fibrosis has not been reported. We evaluated US‐based skin assessments for their face validity (differentiation between involved SSc and healthy

Preparation and evaluation of PEGylated asiatic acid nanostructured lipid carriers on anti-fibrosis effects

open access: yesDrug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2020
Liver fibrosis is a major pathological feature of chronic liver diseases, and effective therapies are limited at present. Asiatic acid (AA) is a triterpenoid isolated from Centella asiatica, which exhibits efficient anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activities. However, AA shows very low plasma levels after oral administration.

Alpinumisoflavone ameliorates choroidal neovascularisation and fibrosis in age-related macular degeneration in in vitro and in vivo models

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of vision loss in the elderly population. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibody therapy is applicable to neovascularisation of AMD; however, the prevention of fibrosis after anti ...
