In Vivo Evaluation of Preconditioned Adipose‐Derived Stromal Cells Reveals Limited Impact on Vascular and ECM Remodeling in Polymer Scaffolds

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Polymer scaffolds are a promising platform for the transplantation of insulin‐producing cells in Type 1 Diabetes. While vascularization has been a primary focus due to its role in oxygen and nutrient delivery, the interplay between blood vessels and the extracellular matrix (ECM) is increasingly recognized as critical for establishing a stable

Two Cases of Diffuse Alveolar Haemorrhage Attributable to Human Metapneumovirus Infection: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
We report two cases of diffuse alveolar haemorrhage attributable to human metapneumovirus (hMPV), confirmed by PCR analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Although the precise efficacy remains uncertain, both cases showed clinical improvement following short‐term corticosteroid therapy.

Baseline and 4‐year associations between prediabetes and kidney impairment: Insights from the ILERVAS cohort

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 5, Page 3777-3787, May 2026.
Abstract Aims Prediabetes is a prevalent condition associated with increased cardiovascular and renal risk. However, the long‐term impact of haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) within the range defined as prediabetes on kidney function remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between prediabetes and renal function (estimated glomerular ...

Clinical significance of renal histological diagnosis in patients with type 2 diabetes and proteinuria atypical for diabetic nephropathy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 781-790, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background/Aim Most patients with proteinuria are considered to have typical diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, when proteinuria occurs without diabetic retinopathy, with hematuria, or persists despite strict glycemic and blood pressure control, it is considered atypical for DN and warrants further evaluation for non‐DN via kidney biopsy ...
