Dual Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Angiogenic Action of miR-15a in Diabetic Retinopathy
Activation of pro-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic pathways in the retina and the bone marrow contributes to pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. We identified miR-15a as key regulator of both pro-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic pathways through direct ...

The Anti-inflammatory Actions of Tilorone Hydrochloride
Tilorone suppressed inflammation induced by immune (direct passive Arthus reaction) as well as by non-immune agents (carrageenam-induced paw edema and abscess formation), if the compound is given 24 hr prior to the proinflammatory agonists. The non-immune anti-inflammatory effect is independent of the adrenals.

HGF Mediates the Anti-inflammatory Effects of PRP on Injured Tendons [PDF]
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) containing hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and other growth factors are widely used in orthopaedic/sports medicine to repair injured tendons.

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Paricalcitol reduces oxidative stress and inflammation in hemodialysis patients [PDF]
Background: Treatment with selective vitamin D receptor activators such as paricalcitol have been shown to exert an anti-inflammatory effect in patients on hemodialysis, in addition to their action on mineral metabolism and independently of parathyroid

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Role of Bifidobacterium bifidum and plant food extracts in improving microflora and biochemical and cytogenetic parameters in adjuvant arthritis. [PDF]
The aim of the present research was to discover plant food extracts and probiotics that may have bioactivity towards chronic inflammation. Three plant food extract mixtures expected to be rich in phenolic compounds, carotenoids and tocopherols were ...

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Mechanisms Behind the Anti-inflammatory Actions of Insulin
The epidemic of diabetes mellitus is worsening worldwide. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by inappropriate recurrent or persistent hyperglycemia. Numerous studies have demonstrated that hyperglycemia, the most significant predictor of poor clinical outcome in diabetes mellitus patients, can directly promote an ...
