DNA Repair, Antibody Diversity, and Aging

Gerontology, 1985
Proposed relationships of DNA repair, mutation, and the process of generation of antibody diversity allow new insights into the mechanism of aging. Pathways of antibody development are reviewed with special attention to steps which generate diversity. The normal process of combinatorial fusion of V region gene segments (i.e. V, D, and J) coding for the

Generation of antibody diversity in rabbits

Current Opinion in Immunology, 1997
Most rabbit B lymphocytes use the same VH gene in V(D)J gene rearrangements and undergo somatic diversification by gene conversion and hypermutation. Recent experiments have shown that V(D)J genes in essentially all rabbit B cells diversify shortly after birth and that this diversification occurs in the gut-associated lymphoid tissue.

Germ line basis for antibody diversity

1975
Each antibody polypeptide chain is the product of a gene pair comprising one constant (C) gene coding for that portion of the chain common to all chains of the same type and one variable (V) gene coding for the sequence unique to each chain. Previous evidence indicates that the haploid genome has a single copy of each distinct C gene and that for ...

The Biological Origin of Antibody Diversity

Annual Review of Biochemistry, 1976
Antibody diversity has a compelling fascination for many scientists and over the years speculations have sometimes seemed more numerous than facts. Now the structural basis of antibody specificity is well defined. Amino acid sequences and recently three-dimensional structures of various immunoglobulins provide the most solid basis for discussing the ...
