Antifungal Drugs [PDF]

open access: yesMetabolites, 2020
We reviewed the licensed antifungal drugs and summarized their mechanisms of action, pharmacological profiles, and susceptibility to specific fungi. Approved antimycotics inhibit 1,3-β-d-glucan synthase, lanosterol 14-α-demethylase, protein, and deoxyribonucleic acid biosynthesis, or sequestrate ergosterol.

Molecular mechanisms governing antifungal drug resistance

open access: yesnpj antimicrobials and resistance, 2023
Fungal pathogens are a severe public health problem. The leading causative agents of systemic fungal infections include species from the Candida, Cryptococcus, and Aspergillus genera.

The Antifungal Pipeline: Fosmanogepix, Ibrexafungerp, Olorofim, Opelconazole, and Rezafungin

open access: yesDrugs, 2021
The epidemiology of invasive fungal infections is changing, with new populations at risk and the emergence of resistance caused by the selective pressure from increased usage of antifungal agents in prophylaxis, empiric therapy, and agriculture.

Chitosan and Chitosan Nanoparticles: Parameters Enhancing Antifungal Activity

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Chitosan (CS), a biopolymer derived from chitin, is known for strong antifungal activity while being biodegradable, biocompatible, and non-toxic. Because of its characteristic it has been widely used in control of fungal pathogens. Antifungal activity of

The Potential of Fatty Acids and Their Derivatives as Antifungal Agents: A Review

open access: yesToxins, 2022
Fungal contamination presents several problems: in humans, health issues arise from infections with opportunistic filamentous fungi and yeast, while in food, fungi cause spoilage and, in particular, in the case of mycotoxigenic fungi, can cause serious ...

Antifungal Drug Resistance: Molecular Mechanisms in Candida albicans and Beyond.

open access: yesChemical Reviews, 2020
Fungal infections are a major contributor to infectious disease-related deaths across the globe. Candida species are among the most common causes of invasive mycotic disease, with Candida albicans reigning as the leading cause of invasive candidiasis ...

Microbial volatile organic compounds: Antifungal mechanisms, applications, and challenges

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
The fungal decay of fresh fruits and vegetables annually generates substantial global economic losses. The utilization of conventional synthetic fungicides is damaging to the environment and human health.
