A Radioresistant‐Tumor‐Targeted Nanoparticle for X‐Ray‐Controlled Nitric Oxide Release to Potentiate Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The PBTN targets GRP78 and, upon X‐ray irradiation, generates ONOO− to induce immunogenic cell death, thereby activating CD8+ T cells and establishing a systemic antitumor immune response. ABSTRACT Nitric oxide (NO) treated radioresistant tumors by relieving hypoxia and blocking DNA repair, but its nonselective toxicity has precluded therapeutic use ...

A guide to antigen processing and presentation

Nature Reviews Immunology, 2022
Antigen processing and presentation are the cornerstones of adaptive immunity. B cells cannot generate high-affinity antibodies without T cell help. CD4+ T cells, which provide such help, use antigen-specific receptors that recognize major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules in complex with peptide cargo. Similarly, eradication of virus-infected

Antigen processing in earthworms

Immunology Letters, 1994
The administration of protein antigens into earthworms Lumbricus terrestris and Eisenia foetida induces the formation of antigen-binding protein (ABP) with the maximum response occurring between days 4 and 8. High proteolytic activities observed both in coelomocytes and in coelomic fluids cause rapid antigen degradation; the majority of antigen is ...

Mechanisms of Antigen Processing

Immunological Reviews, 1988
Using MAb and monovalent Fab probes and saponin permeabilization we have demonstrated that PEC and TA3 B lymphoma-hybridoma cells contain a significant intracellular pool of Ia. At least in TA3 cells, this intracellular pool was independent of protein synthesis. In PEC, adherence caused redistribution of Ia with disappearance of the intracellular pool.

Antigen processing by the proteasome

Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology, 2001
The proteasome is an essential part of our immune surveillance mechanisms: by generating peptides from intracellular antigens it provides peptides that are then 'presented' to T cells. But proteasomes--the waste-disposal units of the cell--typically do not generate peptides for antigen presentation with high efficiency.

Proteasomes and Antigen Processing

1997
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the recent findings related to the roles of proteasomes in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-restricted antigen-processing pathway. One of the most important responses in this antigen-specific immune system is to distinguish correctly non-self-antigens from self-antigens for selective ...

Antigen processing and presentation

2019
Dendritic cells are at the center of immune responses. They are defined by their ability to sense the environment, take up and process antigen, migrate to secondary lymphoid organs, where they present antigens to the adaptive immune system. In particular, they present lipids and proteins from pathogens, which they encountered in peripheral tissues, to ...

Pathways of antigen processing

Current Opinion in Immunology, 1991
Separate pathways exist for the processing of antigens to be presented by MHC class I and class II molecules. We are beginning to determine the subcellular location of certain events in both pathways.

Interference with antigen processing by viruses

Current Opinion in Immunology, 1997
Viruses that establish persistent infections in their host, such as herpesviruses, adenoviruses or HIV, express proteins designed to pre-empt or evade recognition and elimination by MHC class I restricted CD8+ T lymphocytes. Notable discoveries during the annual period of review have demonstrated that, in principle, each single step within the MHC ...
