Ultra‐High‐Throughput Discovery of Multifunctional Polyphenolic Coatings on Droplet Microarrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An ultra‐high‐throughput (UHT) combinatorial strategy enables the miniaturized synthesis and screening of ≈30 000 polyamine‐polyphenolic (PaPp) coatings using droplet microarrays (DMA). This approach reveals hundreds of previously unknown fluorescent, redox‐active, and antibacterial materials, including multifunctional, cell‐compatible surfaces ...

A Dual‐Bioresponsive and Programmable Microneedle Matrix as a Bioinspired Coupler for Orchestrating Diabetic Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This project developed a smart bandage‐like patch (a microneedle array) for repairing diabetic bone damage. It intelligently senses signals from infection and inflammation, then releases its medicines in a specific, timed sequence: first an antibacterial agent, then an anti‐inflammatory agent, and finally growth factors.

Antioxidant and kidney protection; differential impacts of single and whole natural antioxidants.

open access: yesJournal of renal injury prevention, 2013
Implication for health policy/practice/research/medical educationOxidative stress is caused by an imbalance in production of reactive oxygen and the biological ability to detoxify the reactive intermediates or repair the resulting damage. Herbal medicines commonly fight these complications with their antioxidant properties.

Natural Products Inspired Scaffold Diversification Leads to Unnatural Molecular Warhead and Covalent Strategy to Modulating Protein Function through Electrophilic Bromine Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a new thiolate‐reactive α,α‐gem‐dibromo lactam warhead that activates transcription factor Nrf2 and demonstrates anti‐inflammatory activities, which have implications in cancer, neurodegeneration, and cardiovascular diseases. RNA‐seq illuminated detailed transcriptional profiles, and chemical reactions with cysteine‐containing compounds ...

Extent of antioxidant protection of plasma LDL is not a predictor of the antiatherogenic effect of antioxidants

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1997
Oxidation of LDL plays all important role in atherogenesis. The lag-time in the formation of conjugated dienes provides a sensitive measure of the resistance of plasma LDL to oxidation and is widely assumed to be an indicator of atherogenic risk. To test this assumption, we investigated whether different antioxidants yielding similar lag-times result ...

Agnuside Stabilizes the Complex I Assembly Factor NDUFAF6 to Reinforce Mitochondrial Efficiency and Thermogenic Responsiveness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Brown and beige adipocytes dissipate energy as heat, yet effective strategies to enhance their mitochondrial efficiency remain limited. Here, we identify Agnuside (AGN) as a selective stabilizer of the complex I assembly factor NDUFAF6. AGN directly binds cytosolic NDUFAF6, suppresses its ubiquitination, prolongs its half‐life, and facilitates
