Antisense transcription‐dependent chromatin signature modulates sense transcript dynamics [PDF]
Antisense transcription is widespread in genomes. Despite large differences in gene size and architecture, we find that yeast and human genes share a unique, antisense transcription‐associated chromatin signature.

Mechanisms of Antisense Transcription Initiation with Implications in Gene Expression, Genomic Integrity and Disease Pathogenesis [PDF]
Non-coding antisense transcripts arise from the strand opposite the sense strand. Over 70% of the human genome generates non-coding antisense transcripts while less than 2% of the genome codes for proteins.

Repression of meiotic genes by antisense transcription and by Fkh2 transcription factor in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. [PDF]
In S. pombe, about 5% of genes are meiosis-specific and accumulate little or no mRNA during vegetative growth. Here we use Affymetrix tiling arrays to characterize transcripts in vegetative and meiotic cells.

Strand-specific RNA-seq reveals ordered patterns of sense and antisense transcription in Bacillus anthracis. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Although genome-wide transcriptional analysis has been used for many years to study bacterial gene expression, many aspects of the bacterial transcriptome remain undefined.

Novel perspectives on antisense transcription in HIV-1, HTLV-1, and HTLV-2 [PDF]
The genome of retroviruses contains two promoter elements (called long terminal repeat or LTR) at the 5′ and 3′ end of their genome. Although the expression of retroviral genes generally depends on the promoter located in the 5′ LTR, the 3′ LTR also has ...

High levels of antisense transcription from numerous genes in the obligate intracellular bacterium Orientia tsutsugamushi [PDF]
Orientia tsutsugamushi (Ot) is a cytoplasmic, gram-negative, obligate intracellular bacterium that causes the human disease scrub typhus. It has a highly repetitive genome, whereby approximately 50% is composed of multiple copies of a proliferated ...

Epigenetic Regulation of HIV-1 Sense and Antisense Transcription in Response to Latency-Reversing Agents [PDF]
Nucleosomes positioned on the HIV-1 5′ long terminal repeat (LTR) regulate sense transcription as well as the establishment and maintenance of latency.

Antisense transcription can induce expression memory via stable promoter repression [PDF]
Background The capacity of cells to retain a memory of previous signals enables acquisition of unique fates and adaptation to their environment. The underlying gene expression memory can arise from mutual repression of two genes, forming a toggle switch.

Evidence for antisense transcription associated with microRNA target mRNAs in Arabidopsis. [PDF]
Antisense transcription is a pervasive phenomenon, but its source and functional significance is largely unknown. We took an expression-based approach to explore microRNA (miRNA)-related antisense transcription by computational analyses of published ...

Cis-Antisense Transcription Gives Rise to Tunable Genetic Switch Behavior: A Mathematical Modeling Approach. [PDF]
Antisense transcription has been extensively recognized as a regulatory mechanism for gene expression across all kingdoms of life. Despite the broad importance and extensive experimental determination of cis-antisense transcription, relatively little is ...
