Valorization of Zingiber officinale Roscoe leaf biomass: phytotoxic potential and chemical profiling toward sustainable weed management

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Zingiber officinale Roscoe is widely cultivated as a spice and functional food, generating substantial amounts of aerial biomass that is commonly discarded after harvest. Within a circular‐economy framework, this study investigated the phytotoxic potential of Z.

Apigenin: a natural molecule at the intersection of sleep and aging

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
NAD+, a pivotal coenzyme central to metabolism, exhibits a characteristic decline with age. In mice, NAD+ levels can be elevated via treatment with apigenin, a natural flavonoid that inhibits the NAD+-consuming glycoprotein CD38.

The Pharmacokinetics of Raloxifene and Its Interaction with Apigenin in Rat

open access: yesMolecules, 2010
Purpose: Raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator which is structurally similar to tamoxifen. As flavonoids can interact with raloxifene in vitro, we evaluated the in vivo pharmacokinetics of raloxifene in rats when co-administered with ...

Insights into novel anticancer applications for apigenin [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Clinical and Experimental Medicine, 2017
Flavonoids, naturally occuring derivatives of 2-phenyl-benzo-γ-pyrone, are widespread in plants as coloring substances. Apigenin (4',5,7,-trihydroxyflavone (5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one), molecular formula C₁₅H₁₀O⁵, is a flavonoid present in many fruits and vegetables, primarily in citrus fruits, apples, parsley and celery ...

Terazosin Attenuates Neuronal Pyroptosis by Regulating the Mitochondrial ROS/NLRP3 Inflammasome Axis Through Mitophagy in Cerebral Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury (CI/RI) is a major cause of secondary neuronal damage following ischemic stroke. This study investigated whether terazosin (TZ) exerts neuroprotective effects by regulating mitophagy and the reactive oxygen species (ROS)/NOD‐like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome axis.

Apigenin sensitizes prostate cancer cells to Apo2L/TRAIL by targeting adenine nucleotide translocase-2.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Apo2 ligand (Apo2L)/tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a promising cancer therapeutic agent. Recombinant human Apo2L/TRAIL has been under clinical trials, whereas various kinds of malignant tumors have resistance to Apo2L ...

Efficient Synthesis of Apigenin

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Research, 2013
An efficient synthesis of apigenin using 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene and anisaldehyde as starting materials is described, involving Friedel–Crafts acylation, selective demethylation, cyclisation, and demethylation. This transformation features a new method for the deprotection of methyl ethers. The overall yields reached approximately 55%.

Chemical structure and stability of apigenin.

open access: yes, 2014
(A) 4′, 5, 7-trihydroxyflavone (B) Apigenin stability was determined at 37°C by incubating 20 µM apigenin with or without human prostate cancer PC-3 cells for up to 96 h. The concentration of apigenin at each time point was measured using UV-HPLC. Points±

Natural Products as Modulators of ABC Transporters in Breast Cancer

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Breast cancer remains a significant global health challenge, with high incidence and mortality rates despite advancements in early detection and treatment. Multidrug resistance (MDR), particularly in aggressive subtypes like triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC), continues to hinder effective therapy.

Evaluation of the neuroprotective, anticonvulsant, and cognition-improvement effects of apigenin in temporal lobe epilepsy: Involvement of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2019
Objective(s): Cognitive deficit is a common problem in epilepsy. A major concern emergent from the use of antiepileptic drugs includes their side effects on learning and memory.
