TREM2-dependent effects on microglia in Alzheimer\u27s Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a late-onset dementia characterized by the deposition of amyloid plaques and formation of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) which lead to neuronal loss and cognitive deficits.

Estimation of LDL-Associated Apolipoprotein B from Measurements of Triglycerides and Total Apolipoprotein B [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 2008
Abstract Background: VLDL and chylomicrons may interfere with measurements of apolipoprotein B (apo B) on LDL particles. Ultracentrifugation of samples enriched in chylomicrons and VLDL and subsequent measurement of apo B in the infranate fraction [density (d) = 1.006] removes this interference. This apo B fraction is called “LDL–apo B.”

Reengineering Endogenous Targeting Lipid Nanoparticles (ENDO) for Systemic Delivery of mRNA to Pancreas

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ENDO lipid nanoparticles containing cholecalciferol as a fifth component demonstrate mRNA delivery to the pancreas with 99% selectivity, including beta cells. This platform shows minimal toxicity and sustained protein expression for up to 3 days in a dose‐dependent manner, offering a novel approach to pancreas‐specific mRNA delivery and gene therapy ...

Loss of hepatic SMLR1 causes hepatosteatosis and protects against atherosclerosis due to decreased hepatic VLDL secretion

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The role of SMLR1 in lipid metabolism (high fat + cholesterol diet in mice) Abstract Background and Aims The assembly and secretion of VLDL from the liver, a pathway that affects hepatic and plasma lipids, remains incompletely understood. We set out to identify players in the VLDL biogenesis pathway by identifying genes that are co‐expressed with the ...

Visual Molecular Dynamics Investigations of the Impact of Hydrophobic Nanoparticles on Prognosis of Alzheimer’s Disease and Cancers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The possible impact of hydrophobic lectin nanoparticles on the prognosis and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and cancers was investigated by Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD) computer modeling programs available from the Beckmann Advanced ...

Apolipoprotein E mediates evasion from hepatitis C virus−neutralizing antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background & Aims Efforts to develop an effective vaccine against hepatitis C virus (HCV) have been hindered by the propensity of the virus to evade host immune responses. HCV particles in serum and in cell culture associate with lipoproteins, which

Familial defective apolipoprotein B-100: a mutation of apolipoprotein B that causes hypercholesterolemia.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1990
Familial defective apolipoprotein B-100 is a genetic disorder of apolipoprotein B-100 that causes moderate to severe hypercholesterolemia. A single amino acid mutation in apolipoprotein B diminishes the ability of low density lipoproteins to bind to the low density lipoprotein receptor.

Development and Validation of Machine Learning‐Based Marker for Early Detection and Prognosis Stratification of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructs a stacked multimodal machine learning model for nonalcoholic fattly liver disease (NAFLD) by integrating genetic and clinical features, and synthesize an in‐silico quantitative marker (ISNLD) that enables personalized risk stratification for intrahepatic and extrahepatic outcomes of high‐risk individuals of NAFLD.

AIF1+CSF1R+ MSCs, induced by TNF‐α, act to generate an inflammatory microenvironment and promote hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Mesenchymal stem cells subset, educated by TNF‐α, are involved to generate inflammatory microenvironment and promote hepatocarcinogenesis Abstract Background and Aims Increasing evidence suggests that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) home to injured local tissues and the tumor microenvironment in the liver.

Dynamic interfacial properties of human apolipoproteins A-IV and B-17 at the air/water and oil/water interface

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2000
Viscoelastic behavior of proteins at interfaces is a critical determinant of their ability to stabilize emulsions. We therefore used air bubble surfactometry and drop volume tensiometry to examine the dynamic interfacial properties of two plasma ...
