Effect of Intraduodenal Bile and Na-Taurodeoxycholate on Exocrine Pancreatic Secretion and on Plasma Levels of Secretin, Pancreatic Polypeptide, and Gastrin in Man [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The effect of intraduodenally administered cattle bile (CB) and Na-taurodeoxycholate (TDC) on basal pancreatic secretion and plasma levels of secretin, pancreatic polypeptide (PP), and gastrin were investigated on two separate days in 10 fasting ...

Differential effects of aprotinin and tranexamic acid on outcomes and cytokine profiles in neonates undergoing cardiac surgery.

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2012
OBJECTIVE Factors contributing to postoperative complications include blood loss and a heightened inflammatory response. The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that aprotinin would decrease perioperative blood product use, reduce ...

Dimerization‐dependent NOTCH receptor transactivation unveils a class of highly selective NOTCH signalling inhibitors

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
NOTCH signalling is indispensable for tissue homeostasis and, consequently, corruption of its normal function promotes numerous diseases, including cancer. However, the development of targeted therapies has been hampered by inefficacy and overt toxicity. Here, we show that NOTCH receptor dimerization is necessary for receptor transactivation, which has

Characterisation of a phylogenetically distinct PL25 family ulvan lyase from a seaweed biomass enriched metagenome

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Ulvan is a polysaccharide available from green seaweed with beneficial properties for various applications. The full potential of ulvan requires enzymatic degradation of the polymer, thus producing ulvan oligosaccharides. This study expands the armoury of characterised ulvan lyases.

Topical Use of Aprotinin in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

open access: yesActa Medica, 1999
Objective: The internal mammary artery (IMA) ranks among excellent, widely used conduits for surgical coronary revascularization. Its harvesting and its using may cause other surgical and technical problems and complications and increase postoperative ...

Phosphorylation of CLEC-2 is dependent on lipid rafts, actin polymerization, secondary mediators, and Rac [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The C-type lectin-like receptor 2 (CLEC-2)activates platelets through Src and Syk tyrosine kinases via a single cytoplasmic YxxL motif known as a hem immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif (hemITAM).Here, we demonstrate using sucrose gradient ...

ALOX15 mediates thrombin‐induced myristoylation, trafficking, and interaction of protease‐activated receptors, leading to platelet activation and hemostasis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The role of PARs in platelet function is fairly known; however, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. We report that thrombin myristoylates PAR4 in mouse platelets and PAR1 and PAR4 in human platelets, facilitating their membrane transport and interaction, leading to PAR3/4 heterodimers in mice and PAR1/4 heterodimers in humans.

The effect of aprotinin (trasylol) on postoperative bleeding in cyanotic congenital heart disease

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 1991
Despite the widespread clinical success in open-heart surgery, bleeding after cardiopulmonary by-pass (CPB) has been a common problem especially in cyanotic congenital heart disease.

Antifibrinolytics in liver surgery

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2010
Hyperfibrinolysis, a known complication of liver surgery and orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), plays a significant role in blood loss. This fact justifies the use of antifibrinolytic drugs during these procedures.
