Aquaporin-6 Expression in the Cochlear Sensory Epithelium Is Downregulated by Salicylates [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, 2010
We characterize the expression pattern of aquaporin-6 in the mouse inner ear by RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. Our data show that in the inner ear aquaporin-6 is expressed, in both vestibular and acoustic sensory epithelia, by the supporting cells directly contacting hair cells.

Aquaporin-4 gene silencing protects injured neurons after early cerebral infarction

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2015
Aquaporin-4 regulates water molecule channels and is important in tissue regulation and water transportation in the brain. Upregulation of aquaporin-4 expression is closely related to cellular edema after early cerebral infarction.

Aquaporin-6 is expressed along the rat gastrointestinal tract and upregulated by feeding in the small intestine [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Physiology, 2009
Several aquaporins (a family of integral membrane proteins) have been recently identified in the mammalian gastrointestinal tract, and their involvement in the movement of fluid and small solutes has been suggested. In this direction we investigated, in some regions of the rat gastrointestinal tract, the presence and localization of aquaporin-6, given ...

Expression Analysis of Sugarcane Aquaporin Genes under Water Deficit [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nucleic Acids, 2013
The present work is a pioneer study specifically addressing the aquaporin transcripts in sugarcane transcriptomes. Representatives of the four aquaporin subfamilies (PIP, TIP, SIP, and NIP), already described for higher plants, were identified. Forty-two

Interleukin 6 signaling promotes anti-aquaporin 4 autoantibody production from plasmablasts in neuromyelitis optica [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2011
Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an inflammatory disease affecting the optic nerve and spinal cord, in which autoantibodies against aquaporin 4 (AQP4) water channel protein probably play a pathogenic role. Here we show that a B-cell subpopulation, exhibiting the CD19 int CD27 high CD38

Conversion of aquaporin 6 from an anion channel to a water-selective channel by a single amino acid substitution [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2005
Aquaporin (AQP) 6 belongs to the aquaporin water channel family. Unlike other aquaporins, AQP6 functions not as a water channel but as an anion-selective channel. Single-channel analyses have shown AQP6 to flicker rapidly between closed and open status.

Increased CSF aquaporin-4, and interleukin-6 levels in dogs with idiopathic communicating internal hydrocephalus and a decrease after ventriculo-peritoneal shunting [PDF]

open access: yesFluids and Barriers of the CNS, 2016
Background: Studies in animal models, in which internal hydrocephalus has been induced by obstructing the cerebrospinal fluid pathways, have documented an up-regulation of the concentrations of aquaporin-4 (AQP4) in the brain. In this study, the concentrations of aquaporin-1 (AQP1), AQP1, AQP4 and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were determined in the CSF of dogs

Convergence spasm due to aquaporin-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder

open access: yeseNeurologicalSci, 2017
A female 27 presented with nausea and diplopia for 1 week. On examination she had normal vertical gaze but would develop convergence with miosis whenever she made horizontal saccades. Pupils were 6 mm and unreactive to light.

Aquaporins 6-12 in the human eye [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, 2012
Aquaporins (AQPs) are widely expressed and have diverse distribution patterns in the eye. AQPs 0-5 have been localized at the cellular level in human eyes. We investigated the presence of the more recently discovered AQPs 6-12 in the human eye.RT-PCR was performed on fresh tissue from two human eyes divided into the cornea, corneal limbus, ciliary body

Molecular cloning and characterization of mouse aquaporin 6 [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2007
In the rat kidney, aquaporin (AQP) 6 is localized in the intracellular vesicle membranes of type-A intercalated cells of the collecting duct; mouse AQP6 (mAQP6) has not been characterized. Although mAQP6 was originally cloned from cDNA in a mouse cerebellum library (GenBank NM 175087), we have independently cloned a cDNA encoding mAQP6 from an adult ...
