The potential of archaeosomes as carriers of pDNA into mammalian cells

open access: yesArtificial Cells, Nanomedicine, and Biotechnology, 2015
This paper describes the formulation of archaeosomes and the evaluation of their abilities to facilitate in vitro DNA delivery. Lipids of the H.hispanica 2TK2 strain were used in archaeosome formation, which is formulated by mixing H.hispanica 2TK2 lipids with plasmid DNA encoding green fluorescent protein (GFP) or β-galactosidase (β-gal).

Influence of Coenzyme Q10 on Tissue Distribution of Archaeosomes, and Pegylated Archaeosomes, Administered to Mice by Oral and Intravenous Routes

open access: yesJournal of Drug Targeting, 1999
The biodistribution of orally and intravenously administered archaeosomes in mice was compared to that of archaeosomes containing either coenzyme Q10 (archaeosome-CoQ10), polyethylene glycol (archaeosome-PEG), or PEG plus CoQ10 (archaeosome-PEG-CoQ10).

Archaeosomes as novel antigen delivery systems

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1997
The humoral immune response mounted in BALB/c mice against bovine serum albumin or cholera toxin B subunit was compared when the antigens were associated with liposomes composed of either archaeal ether lipids or conventional lipids. Antibody titres in sera from mice immunised intraperitoneally were elevated to an extent comparable to those achieved ...

Homologous Prime-Boost Vaccination with OVA Entrapped in Self-Adjuvanting Archaeosomes Induces High Numbers of OVA-Specific CD8+ T Cells that Protect Against Subcutaneous B16-OVA Melanoma

open access: yesVaccines, 2016
Homologous prime-boost vaccinations with live vectors typically fail to induce repeated strong CD8+ T cell responses due to the induction of anti-vector immunity, highlighting the need for alternative delivery vehicles. The unique ether lipids of archaea

Archaeosomes as Drug and Vaccine Nanodelivery Systems

open access: yes, 2006
Archaeosomes, liposomes made from the polar lipids extracted from the membranes of Archaea, have been extensively studied for potential applications in drug and vaccine delivery over the past decade only. Archaeosomes offer significant advantages as nanodelivery vesicles over conventional liposomes made from the ester lipids found in Eukarya and ...

In vitro evaluation of archaeosome vehicles for transdermal vaccine delivery

open access: yesJournal of Liposome Research, 2017
Archaeosomes composed of archaeal total polar lipids (TPL) or semi-synthetic analog vesicles have been used as vaccine adjuvants and delivery systems in animal models for many years. Typically administered by intramuscular or subcutaneous injections, archaeosomes can induce robust, long-lasting humoral and cell-mediated immune responses against ...

Synthesis of Paclitaxel Loaded on Nanoparticles of Archaeosomes and Investigation its Anti-Cancer Properties on Breast Cancer MDA-MB231 cells

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Cancer Biology, 2017
In this study the effect of Archaeosomal Paclitaxel drug on Breast Cancer cell lines MDA-MB231 cells was evaluated. The experiments were conducted to assess the cytotoxicity of 7 Paclitaxel in free form and compare it with Archaeosomal form of the drug ...

In Silico Prophage Analysis of Halobacterium salinarum ATCC 33170

open access: yesApplied Microbiology
The extremophile Halobacterium salinarum is an aerobic archaeon that has adapted to thrive in high-salt environments such as salted fish, hypersaline lakes, and salterns. Halophiles have garnered significant interest due to their unique interactions with
