Sources of Organic and Inorganic Halogens to the Polar and Temperate Marine Boundary Layer [PDF]
Very short lived halogenated substances (VSLH) are of importance for the transport of reactive halogens to the troposphere and lower stratosphere, whereas molecular halogens are of specific importance to the Marine Boundary Layer (MBL).

Melt pond distribution and geometry in high Arctic sea ice derived from aerial investigations
Aerial photography was conducted in the high Arctic Ocean during a Chinese research expedition in summer 2010. By partitioning the images into three distinct surface categories (sea ice/snow, water and melt ponds), the areal fraction of each category ...

Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Arctic sea ice melt leads to atmospheric new particle formation
Atmospheric new particle formation (NPF) and growth significantly influences climate by supplying new seeds for cloud condensation and brightness. Currently, there is a lack of understanding of whether and how marine biota emissions affect aerosol-cloud ...

The evolution of light and vertical mixing across a phytoplankton ice-edge bloom
During summer, phytoplankton can bloom in the Arctic Ocean, both in open water and under ice, often strongly linked to the retreating ice edge. There, the surface ocean responds to steep lateral gradients in ice melt, mixing, and light input, shaping the

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Key winter habitat of the ivory gull Pagophila eburnea in the Canadian Arctic
The ivory gull Pagophila eburnea is a rare Arctic seabird that breeds in remote locations; little is known of its winter distribution and behaviour. It is listed under Canadian legislation as ëendangeredí, and as ënear threatenedí by the International ...

Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.
