Evaluation of the Methods for Nonlinear Analysis of Heart Rate Variability

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2023
The dynamics of cardiac signals can be studied using methods for nonlinear analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). The methods that are used in the article to investigate the fractal, multifractal and informational characteristics of the intervals ...

Prequential AUC: properties of the area under the ROC curve for data streams with concept drift

open access: yesKnowledge and Information Systems, 2017
Modern data-driven systems often require classifiers capable of dealing with streaming imbalanced data and concept changes. The assessment of learning algorithms in such scenarios is still a challenge, as existing online evaluation measures focus on efficiency, but are susceptible to class ratio changes over time. In case of static data, the area under

Can First-Dose Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Predict the Steady State Area Under the Blood Concentration-Time Curve of Busulfan in Pediatric Patients Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation?

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2022
Busulfan has high intra-individual variability and possible time-dependent changes in clearance, which complicates therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), as first dose sampling may not predict the steady state concentrations.

Incidence and Severity of Carboplatin‐Associated Hearing Loss in Children With Cancer Assessed by the SIOP Boston 2012 Ototoxicity Criteria

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Platinum‐based chemotherapy is known to cause severe and debilitating hearing loss, but unlike cisplatin, the true incidence of carboplatin‐induced hearing loss remains unclear. We evaluated functional hearing outcomes in children receiving carboplatin to determine the incidence and severity of ototoxicity. Procedure We identified a

Nonparametric bootstrap methods for interval estimation of the area under the ROC curve with correlated diagnostic test data: application to whole-virus ELISA testing in swine

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2023
Developing and evaluating novel diagnostic assays are crucial components of contemporary diagnostic research. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) are frequently used to evaluate diagnostic assays ...

Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

Towards non-invasive diagnosis of glioblastoma: identifying metabolic biomarkers in liquid biopsies using a ROC-based approach

open access: yesDiscover Oncology
For over seven decades, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified central nervous system tumors primarily based on histological criteria. While recent updates have incorporated molecular genetics and histochemistry, this approach still overlooks

Comparing the Relative Efficacy of Generalized Estimating Equations, Latent Growth Curve Modeling, and Area Under the Curve with a Repeated Measures Discrete Ordinal Outcome Variable

open access: yesStats
Researchers are often interested in how changes in one variable influence changes in a second variable, requiring the repeated measures of two variables.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A molecular computational model improves the preoperative diagnosis of thyroid nodules

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2012
Background Thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytological features on fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology have a 20% risk of thyroid cancer. The aim of the current study was to determine the diagnostic utility of an 8-gene assay to distinguish benign ...
