A Pan-Cancer Analysis of the Role of Argininosuccinate Synthase 1 in Human Tumors [PDF]
Frontiers in Oncology, 2023 AimThere is accumulating evidence indicating that ASS1 is closely related to tumors. No pan-cancer analysis of ASS1 was available.MethodsHere we explored the gene expression and survival analysis of ASS1 across thirty-three tumors based on the datasets ...

Argininosuccinate synthase 1, arginine deprivation therapy and cancer management [PDF]
Frontiers in Pharmacology, 2022 Metabolic reprogramming is an emerging hallmark of tumor cells. In order to survive in the nutrient-deprived environment, tumor cells rewire their metabolic phenotype to provide sufficient energy and build biomass to sustain their transformed state and ...

Argininosuccinate synthase 1 suppresses tumor progression through activation of PERK/eIF2α/ATF4/CHOP axis in hepatocellular carcinoma [PDF]
Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2021 Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant cancers worldwide, and liver cancer has increased in mortality due to liver cancer because it was detected at an advanced stages in patients with liver dysfunction, making HCC ...

Inhibition of the Polyamine Synthesis Pathway Is Synthetically Lethal with Loss of Argininosuccinate Synthase 1 [PDF]
Cell Reports, 2016 Argininosuccinate synthase 1 (ASS1) is the rate-limiting enzyme for arginine biosynthesis. ASS1 expression is lost in a range of tumor types, including 50% of malignant pleural mesotheliomas.

Argininosuccinate synthase 1 (ASS1) orchestrates arginine metabolism and ornithine production to modulate CHIKV infection [PDF]
Journal of VirologyViruses reprogram the host metabolic machinery to ensure a continuous supply of macromolecules and energy for their own survival. Important cellular pathways are impacted during infection, resulting in changes in key metabolic precursors that influence ...

Etoposide-induced protein 2.4 homolog promotes argininosuccinate synthase 1 and cancer cell survival upon arginine deprivation [PDF]
Cellular & Molecular Biology LettersBackground Arginine auxotrophy has been reported in a subset of cancers with inherently defective de novo arginine synthesis. However, the use of arginine deprivation therapy seems to be unequally effective, partially owing to the resistance acquired by ...

The prognostic and therapeutic implications of distinct patterns of argininosuccinate synthase 1 (ASS1) and arginase-2 (ARG2) expression by cancer cells and tumor stroma in non-small-cell lung cancer [PDF]
Cancer & Metabolism, 2021 Background Arginine (Arg) is essential for cancer cell growth and also for the activation of T cells. Thus, therapies aiming to reduce Arg utilization by cancer may prove detrimental for the immune response.

Dual Urea Cycle Dysfunction Caused by Coexisting Argininosuccinic Aciduria and Citrin Deficiency: Clinical, Biochemical, and Molecular Insights From an Exceptional Case. [PDF]
JIMD RepABSTRACT Dual inherited defects affecting urea cycle function are exceptionally rare. We report the first case, to our knowledge, of the coexistence of argininosuccinic aciduria (ASA) and citrin deficiency (CD). A girl born to consanguineous Tunisian parents presented at 6 months of age with recurrent seizures, vomiting, developmental delay, and severe
