Chilling injury sensitivity in arracacha (Arracacia xanthorrhiza) roots

Mature storage roots from two clones, Amarela de Carandai and Roxa de Vicosa, stored at 10°C showed only slight symptoms of chilling injury after 28 days. At 5°C both clones were moderately injured after 14 days and extremely injured after 28 days. Copyright © 2005 Whurr Publishers Ltd.

Complete genome sequence of arracacha virus B: a novel cheravirus

The complete genome sequences of RNA1 and RNA2 of the oca strain of the potato virus arracacha virus B were determined using next-generation sequencing. The RNA1 molecule is predicted to encode a 259-kDa polyprotein with homology to proteins of the cheraviruses apple latent spherical virus (ALSV) and cherry rasp leaf virus (CRLV).

High-throughput sequencing analysis detected a clostero-like virus from arracacha plants (Arracacia xanthorrhiza) in Brazil. The complete genome sequence, confirmed by RACE and Sanger sequencing, consists of 15,763 nucleotides with nine predicted open reading frames (ORFs) in a typical closterovirus genome organisation.

Use of herbicides and hand weeding are common practices for weed control in root and tuber crops throughout the Caribbean Basin. In Puerto Rico, herbicides ametryn and paraquat are registered for use in some root and tuber production, but no herbicides are registered for arracacha.
