The maize mitogen‐activated protein kinase kinase kinase gene ZmMAPKKK45 is associated with multiple disease resistance

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 6, Page 3003-3020, March 2026.
Summary Southern leaf blight (SLB), caused by the necrotrophic fungus Cochliobolus heterostrophus, is a major foliar disease of maize (Zea mays) world‐wide. A genome‐wide association study was performed to dissect the genetic basis of SLB resistance in maize. Functional validation was performed using mutant and transgenic analyses.

Calmodulin‐Like Protein MfCML50 Interacts With Carveol Dehydrogenase in Medicago falcata to Regulate Cold Tolerance Through Mediating ROS Homeostasis

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 1152-1165, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Low temperature triggers Ca2+ signalling and reprogramming of gene expression and metabolism in plants. However, how the Ca2+ signal is transduced to the downstream metabolic pathways remains unknown. The involvement of a cold‐induced calmodulin‐like protein, MfCML50, from Medicago falcata in regulation of cold tolerance was examined in the ...

The Rhus chinensis Genome Provides Insights Into Tannin, Flavonoid Biosynthesis, and Glandular Trichome Development

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 988-1013, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The “salt tree”, Rhus chinensis, holds significant economic and medicinal value due to its ability to produce Galla chinensis (Chinese gall/gallnut), a plant‐derived medicinal material used in both traditional Chinese and modern medicine that is rich in tannins and flavonoids. It is also renowned for its remarkable stress tolerance.

The miR164b‐SiNAC015 Module Regulates Drought Tolerance by Scavenging Reactive Oxygen Species in Foxtail Millet

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 1804-1821, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Drought is the major abiotic stress threatening global crop yields, thus identifying potential candidates with promising breeding value has become a central goal of current breeding programmes. Here, we found that miR164b functions as a negative regulator in plant drought tolerance, whose expression is dramatically inhibited under drought ...

Divergent Biochemical Strategies and Organ‐Specific Metabolic Adjustments in Spinach Mediated by Exogenous Amino Acids Under Salt Stress

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 178, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the physiological and biochemical responses of spinach to salt stress through amino acid supplementation is crucial for improving crop resilience under increasing soil salinity conditions. Salt stress represents one of the most severe abiotic constraints limiting vegetable crop productivity worldwide, yet comprehensive studies ...
