Function of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle in aged sunflower seeds

Physiologia Plantarum, 1996
The function of the ascorbate‐glutathione (AsA/GSH) cycle was analyzed in seeds of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L. cv. Peredovik) subjected to accelerated ageing at 43°C and 75% relative humidity for 1 to 11 days. The study was performed using dry seeds and seeds hydrated by imbibition in distilled water for 4 h at 25 °C.

Microplate quantification of enzymes of the plant ascorbate–glutathione cycle

Analytical Biochemistry, 2008
Here, we describe microplate assays for determining the specific activities of four enzymes that constitute the ascorbate-glutathione cycle: APX, MDHAR, DHAR, and GR. In plants, these enzymes play a major role in detoxifying reactive oxygen species produced in cells under environmental stress.

Ascorbate-Glutathione Cycle and Abiotic Stress Tolerance in Plants

2017
Plants confront fluctuating and in some cases intense environmental conditions, such as changes in irradiation, water availability, extreme temperatures, mineral nutrient accessibility, and air pollutants exposition among others. In order to face abiotic stress situations, the redox buffer capacity, mainly represented by ascorbic acid (AsA) and ...

Specific features of the ascorbate/glutathione cycle in cultured protoplasts

Plant Cell Reports, 1999
Protoplasts isolated from Nicotiana tabacum (L.) leaves were cultured for 6 days in liquid medium and some features of their antioxidant capacity were investigated. Ascorbate exported into the culture medium was oxidized non-enzymically, whereas important modifications of the enzymic scavenging activity were detected inside protoplasts.

Diurnal changes of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle components in wheat genotypes exposed to drought

Functional Plant Biology, 2020
The ascorbate-glutathione (AsA-GSH) cycle is a major pathway of H2O2 scavenging in plants. The effect of diurnal variations in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) content, the intensity of lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde, MDA), photosynthesis, antioxidants and antioxidative enzyme activities involved in AsA-GSH metabolism has been studied comparatively in ...

Activation of ascorbate-glutathione cycle inArabidopsis leaves in response to aminotriazole

Journal of Plant Biology, 1998
Aminotriazole(AT)-induced changes in growth, hydrogen peroxide content and activities of H2O2-scavenging antioxidant enzymes were investigated in the growing leaves ofArabidopsis plants (Arabidopsis thaliana cv Columbia). Catalase activity of rosette leaves was reduced by 65% with an application of 0.1 mM AT (a herbicide known as a catalase inhibitor),

Role of the Ascorbate–Glutathione Cycle in Paraquat Tolerance of Rice

Weed Science, 2013
Out of 1,343 mutant lines of rice mutated by sodium azide from the parental Japonica-type variety ‘Tainung 67’ (TNG67), a paraquat-susceptible line 1192 and a paraquat-tolerant line 72 were selected using whole seedlings at the four-leaf stage and leaf segments at the tillering stage as test materials.

Regulation of the Ascorbate–Glutathione Cycle in Plants Under Drought Stress

2010
Ascorbate (Asc) and glutathione (GSH) are important molecules functioning in several vital processes in plant cells, including the ascorbate-glutathione cycle. They are involved in basic metabolic reactions normally occurring in plants as well as in those evoked by abiotic or biotic stresses.

Proteomic and activity profiles of ascorbate–glutathione cycle enzymes in germinating barley embryo

Phytochemistry, 2010
Enzymes involved in redox control are important during seed germination and seedling growth. Ascorbate-glutathione cycle enzymes in barley embryo extracts were monitored both by 2D-gel electrophoresis and activity measurements from 4 to 144 h post imbibition (PI). Strikingly different activity profiles were observed.

Ascorbate-Glutathione Cycle and Biotic Stress Tolerance in Plants

2017
The ascorbate-glutathione cycle (AsA-GSH cycle) is a central pathway of the plant cells linking the H2O2-scavenging activity to redox signalling. Here, we summarize the most recent advances in our understanding of the role of AsA-GSH cycle in plant–pathogen interactions.
