Transcriptional insights on the incomplete cytoplasmic maturation and developmental potential of oocytes cultured without granulosa cells in mice

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Oocyte maturation is crucial for female fertility and embryonic development, encompassing nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation. Supportive cells of follicles, such as granulosa cells, are essential for oocyte growth and maturation.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Growth Hormone Promotes in vitro Maturation of Human Oocytes

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
Increasing the success rate of in vitro maturation (IVM) for human oocytes has a major clinical significance. Previous studies have shown that growth hormone (GH) added into IVM medium could promote IVM of oocytes from non-human beings.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Efficacy and safety of mesenchymal stem cell therapy for ovarian ageing in a mouse model

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy
Background Ovarian ageing is one of the major issues that impacts female fertility. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based therapy has made impressive progress in recent years.

Effect of preconceptional orlistat treatment on in-vitro fertilization outcome in overweight/obese women: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesTrials, 2018
Background Obese women have fewer oocytes retrieved, an increased cancelation rate, a higher miscarriage rate, and a lower live birth rate after assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment compared with women with normal weight.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Assisted Reproductive Technologies

open access: yes, 2021
Since the birth of Louise Brown, the first “test tube baby, " in 1978, assisted reproductive technology (ART) has been widely implemented as a standard treatment for couples with subfertility problems. An estimated 8 million children have been born via ART worldwide and up to 6% of newborns in Europe and 1.5% in United States are conceived via this ...
