Asymmetric Synthesis of (‐)‐Acaterin.

ChemInform, 2003
The asymmetric synthesis of (−)-acaterin, an inhibitor of acyl-CoA cholesterol acyl transferase has been achieved starting from the commercially available starting materials, octan-1-ol and methyl (R)-lactate. The key steps are a Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation and a Wittig olefination.

Asymmetric synthesis of fluorocarbohydrates

Journal of Fluorine Chemistry, 1989
Abstract We are pursuing an approach of asymmetric synthesis of fluorinated analogues of biologically active compounds. The framework of chiral carbon atoms of the target molecule is built up around a chiral fluorinated synthon, of synthetic origin, in which an optically pure sulphinyl residue works as a chiral auxiliary agent.

On spontaneous asymmetric synthesis

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1953
Abstract The kinetic equations of growth of symmetrically mutually antagonistic self-reproducing systems are considered and shown to lead to instability. It follows that spontaneous asymmetric synthesis is a natural property of life: a laboratory demonstration is not necessarily impossible.
