Nascent HDL formation by hepatocytes is reduced by the concerted action of serum amyloid A and endothelial lipase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
Inflammation is associated with significant decreases in plasma HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) and apoA-I levels. Endothelial lipase (EL) is known to be an important determinant of HDL-C in mice and in humans and is upregulated during inflammation.

Effects of Common Food Additives Kappa‐, Iota‐ and Lambda‐Carrageenans on Intestinal Epithelial Cell Activation and Barrier Disruption

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Allergy, EarlyView.
Carrageenans, widely used food additives, disrupted intestinal epithelial integrity in a gut‐on‐a‐chip model. All types (κ‐, ɩ‐, λ‐) induced cytotoxicity, inflammation and tight junction (TJ) disruption, triggering TNF‐mediated immune responses. λ‐Carrageenan had the most severe effects, supporting the Epithelial Barrier Theory linking food additives ...

LXR-mediated activation of macrophage stearoyl-CoA desaturase generates unsaturated fatty acids that destabilize ABCA1

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
Abnormal HDL metabolism among patients with diabetes and insulin resistance may contribute to their increased risk of atherosclerosis. ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) mediates the transport of cholesterol and phospholipids from cells to HDL ...

Glycaemic Influences on the ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter A1 (ABCA1)

open access: yes, 2010
Increased glucose levels are associated with increased risk of vascular disease. The risk is elevated 2-4 fold in type 2 diabetes and there is a positive relationship between glucose (or HbA1c) levels and vascular disease in the general population. We tested the hypothesis that there is a glycaemia-mediated impairment of reverse cholesterol transport ...

Phosphorylation and Stabilization of ATP Binding Cassette Transporter A1 by Synthetic Amphiphilic Helical Peptides [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2004
To investigate structural requirement of helical apolipoprotein to phosphorylate and stabilize ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), synthetic peptides (Remaley, A. T., Thomas, F., Stonik, J. The multidimensional regulation roles and mechanisms of calcium in fruit quality

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how calcium signaling molecule integrates plant hormones, environmental cues, and developmental signals to influence external fruit traits, internal nutritional properties, and physiological disorders. ABSTRACT Calcium (Ca2+), a dual‐functional mineral that serves both as an essential structural factor and a signaling molecule ...

ABCA1-dependent lipid efflux to apolipoprotein A-I mediates HDL particle formation and decreases VLDL secretion from murine hepatocytes

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
High levels of expression of the ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) in the liver and the need to over- or underexpress hepatic ABCA1 to impact plasma HDL levels in mice suggest a major role of the liver in HDL formation and in determining ...

Retardation of atherosclerosis in immunocompetent apolipoprotein (apo) E-deficient mice followingliver-directed administration of a [E1-, E3-,polymerase-] adenovirus vector containing the elongation factor-1a promoter driving expression of human apoE cDNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Although gene transfer of human apolipoprotein E (apoE), a 34-kDa circulating glycoprotein, to the liver of apoEdeficient(apoE-/-) mice using recombinant adenoviral vectors (rAd) is antiatherogenic, its full therapeutic potentialhas yet to be realized ...

SlGRF1 mediates gibberellin signaling to control cut‐budding in tomato

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Upon wounding, cytokinin increases to initiate callus formation. Gibberellin enhances this, but later blocks bud formation by suppressing SlGRF1. Wounding‐induced protein SlGRF1 triggers buds via NAM1, EPF4, and ER2. Hormonal shifts control cut‐budding phases.
