ATP-binding cassette transporters and drug resistance in cutaneous leishmaniasis
Leishmania spp. are intracellular protozoan parasites causative of visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis. Recognized as a neglected tropical disease affecting millions of people around the world, this affliction represents a major public health problem ...

Efflux in fungi: la pièce de résistance. [PDF]
Pathogens must be able to overcome both host defenses and antimicrobial treatment in order to successfully infect and maintain colonization of the host. One way fungi accomplish this feat and overcome intercellular toxin accumulation is efflux pumps, in ...

Relocation of active site carboxylates in major facilitator superfamily multidrug transporter LmrP reveals plasticity in proton interactions [PDF]
The expression of polyspecific membrane transporters is one important mechanism by which cells can obtain resistance to structurally different antibiotics and cytotoxic agents.

Endocytic Control of Cell‐Autonomous and Non‐Cell‐Autonomous Functions of p53
NUMB Ex3‐containing isoforms localize to the plasma membrane, where they recruit p53 through SNX9 and direct it to multivesicular bodies and exosomes. Exported p53 is taken up by neighboring cells and activates nuclear programs, revealing an intercellular, exosome‐based pathway that might help establish a tumor‐suppressive microenvironment.

ATP-Binding Cassette Cholesterol Transporters and Cardiovascular Disease [PDF]
A hallmark of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the accumulation of cholesterol in arterial macrophages. Factors that modulate circulating and tissue cholesterol levels have major impacts on initiation, progression, and regression of CVD.
