Thin Wall Ductile Iron Castings: Technological Aspects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The paper discusses the reasons for the current trend of substituting ductile iron castings by aluminum alloys castings. However, it has been shown that ductile iron is superior to aluminum alloys in many applications.

Formation of Bainite in a Low‐Carbon Steel at Slow Cooling Rate – Experimental Observations and Thermodynamic Validation

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 96, Issue 2, February 2025.
A low‐carbon (0.23 wt%) carbide‐free bainitic steel is successfully developed with a total alloying addition of 4.9 wt%, which is relatively lower than alloying additions reported in similar category of steels. The present findings indicate that the currently designed low‐alloy steel composition is amenable to generation of nearly carbide‐free bainitic

The Effect of Cooling Rate on Bainite Phase Formation in Austempered Nickel‐Molybdenum Gray Cast Iron

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Taking into account the importance of the amount of bainite phase on the microstructure of cast irons and its influence on the improvement of mechanical properties, this research selected an alloy of gray cast iron containing Nickel‐Molybdenum and conducted the austenitising and austempering processes at 900°C and 400°C for 60 minutes, respectively ...

Sliding wear behavior of PVD CrN and TiN coated austempered ductile iron [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This work studies the sliding wear behavior of PVD coated austempered ductile iron samples. The effects of the substrate surface finishing method (grinding and polishing) and coating material (CrN and TiN) on the wear behavior are evaluated.

The Effect of Cryogenic Treatment on W360 and E38K Hot Work Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 95, Issue 9, September 2024.
The cryogenic treatment facilitates the transformation of retained austenite to martensite to an undetectable limit, with about 3 times higher amount of the carbide precipitation for both steel types. Both steel types exhibit almost similar impact energy values at room temperature, but E38K steel has 2 times higher energy at 350 °C.

Austenitization of FerriticDuctile Iron

open access: yesArchives of Foundry Engineering, 2014
Austenitization is the first step of heat treatment preceding the isothermal quenching of ductile iron in austempered ductile iron (ADI) manufacturing. Usually, the starting material for the ADI production is ductile iron with more convenient pearlitic ...
