Pneumococcal carriage, serotype distribution and risk factors in children with community-acquired pneumonia, 5 years after introduction of the 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in Ethiopia [PDF]
Background: There is a scarcity of data on pneumococcal serotypes carried by children in Ethiopia. We studied pneumococcal nasopharyngeal carriage rate, serotypes, and risk factors among children with community acquired pneumonia (CAP).

The bacterial cell wall is in part composed of the peptidoglycan (PG) layer that maintains the cell shape and sustains the basic cellular processes of growth and division. The cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria also carries teichoic acids (TAs). In this

Some properties of autolysin of Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum.
A lytic enzyme activity (N-acetylmuramidase activity) was found in the supernatant fluid of an exponentially growing culture of Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum (ATCC 13564). The same enzyme activity was also found in the autolysate of the cells and the isolated crude cell walls.

Partial characterization of a major autolysin from Mycobacterium phlei [PDF]
Autolytic enzyme profiles of fast- and slow-growing mycobacteria were examined using SDS-PAGE zymography with incorporated mycobacterial peptidoglycan sacculi as substrate. Each species tested (Mycobacterium phlei, Mycobacterium smegmatis, Mycobacterium aurum, Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium kansasii) appeared to produce a different set of ...

Tyrosine phosphorylation enhances activity of pneumococcal autolysin LytA
Tyrosine phosphorylation has long been recognized as a crucial post-translational regulatory mechanism in eukaryotes. However, only in the past decade has recognition been given to the crucial importance of bacterial tyrosine phosphorylation as an important regulatory feature of pathogenesis.
