Dual‐affinity avidin molecules

Proteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, 2005
AbstractA recently reported dual‐chain avidin was modified further to contain two distinct, independent types of ligand‐binding sites within a single polypeptide chain. Chicken avidin is normally a tetrameric glycoprotein that binds water‐soluble d‐biotin with extreme affinity (Kd ≈ 10−15 M). Avidin is utilized in various applications and techniques in

Preparation of Avidin Conjugates

1996
The high-affinity avidin-biotin system has found applications in different fields of biotechnology, including immunoassays, histochemistry, affinity chromatography, and drug delivery, to name a few. A brief description of avidin and avidin-like molecules, streptavidin, deglycosylated avidin, and NeutraLite avidin is presented in the Chapter 2.

Avidin-Biotin Immobilisation Systems

1993
Abstract Over the past two decades, the avid in–biotin system has evolved to be an extremely useful tool in the fields of biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology. The extraordinary affinity (Kd ∼ 10−15 M) of avid in (or its bacterial relative, streptavidin) for the vitamin biotin forms the basis for using this system.

(Strept)avidin Binds Glycoconjugates

Biochemistry (Moscow)
Fluorescently labeled and conjugated (strept)avidins are widely used for imaging biotinylated molecules in immunological assays and histochemistry. We showed that besides biotin, these proteins bind glycans, including fragments of mammalian glycoproteins and glycolipids, in particular, ABO blood group antigens, oligolactosamines, and 6-O-sulfated ...

Genetically engineered avidins and streptavidins

Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2006
Chicken avidin and bacterial streptavidin, (strept)avidin, are proteins widely utilized in a number of applications in life science, ranging from purification and labeling techniques to diagnostics, and from targeted drug delivery to nanotechnology. (Strept)avidin-biotin technology relies on the extremely tight and specific affinity between (strept ...

[6] Nonglycosylated avidin

1990
Publisher Summary This chapter describes a method for the isolation of the non-glycosylated tetramer. This method is based on the removal of glycosylated forms using appropriate lectin columns. Belovo avidin is dissolved in 192 ml distilled water and the solution is centrifuged. The clarified solution is applied to a Con A column. Tris buffer is used

Towards a synthetic avidin mimic

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2011
A series of streptavidin-mimicking molecularly imprinted polymers has been developed and evaluated for their biotin binding characteristics. A combination of molecular dynamics and NMR spectroscopy was used to examine potential polymer systems, in particular with the functional monomers methacrylic acid and 2-acrylamidopyridine.

Avidin Binds to Condensed Chromatin

Stain Technology, 1977
The protein avidin has been conjugated with fluorescein isothiocyanate and then used to treat cells and chromosome preparations. Fluorescence microscopy reveals that this protein is bound by areas of the specimen containing condensed chromatin.
