PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Rebaudioside D decreases adiposity and hepatic lipid accumulation in a mouse model of obesity

open access: yesScientific Reports
Overconsumption of added sugars has been pointed out as a major culprit in the increasing rates of obesity worldwide, contributing to the rising popularity of non-caloric sweeteners.

The Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore in Platelets: Mechanisms, Physiological Roles, and Therapeutic Perspectives

open access: yesAntioxidants
Platelets have long been known to be critically involved in hemostasis and thrombosis. However, platelets are also recognized as metabolically active cells that require well-regulated mitochondrial function to support their multiple functions in ...

Axis Screw Fixation – A Step-by-Step Review of the Surgical Techniques

open access: yesBrazilian Neurosurgery, 2017
In this article, we present the techniques of axis screw fixation (laminar, pars, pedicle and transarticular screws), discussing the indications and contraindications of each one, as well as surgical tips and anatomical landmarks.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

The axis ratio distribution of X-ray clusters observed by XMM-Newton

open access: yes, 2010
We derive the axis ratio distribution of X-ray clusters using the XMM-Newton catalogue (Snowden et al. 2008). By fitting the contour lines of the X-ray image by ellipses, we confirm the X-ray distribution is well approximated by the elliptic distribution

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Wnt, Ptk7, and FGFRL expression gradients control trunk positional identity in planarian regeneration

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Mechanisms enabling positional identity re-establishment are likely critical for tissue regeneration. Planarians use Wnt/beta-catenin signaling to polarize the termini of their anteroposterior axis, but little is known about how regeneration signaling ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
