Overcoming resistance of Candida albicans using photodynamic inactivation
The rising resistance of Candida albicans to conventional antifungals, like Amphotericin B (AmB), highlights the need for alternative treatments. This study evaluated the antifungal effectiveness of combining AmB with photodynamic inactivation (PDI) using curcumin as a photosensitizer.

Pinus‐derived membrane vesicles disrupt pathogenic metabolism in fungi
Needle‐derived vesicles from pine trees impair fungal metabolism and growth, offering a sustainable strategy to control pine pitch canker disease. Abstract Much of what we know about the biological impacts of vesicles (MVs) is derived from Arabidopsis thaliana.

Probing the role of point mutations in the cyp51A gene from Aspergillus fumigatus in the model yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]
Azole-resistant strains of Aspergillus fumigatus have been detected and the underlying molecular mechanisms of resistance characterized. Point mutations in the cyp51A gene have been proved to be related to azole resistance in A.

There has been a dramatic increase in the prevalence of serious invasive fungal infections over the past decade Up to 5% of the total infections in the world are caused by fungi. Fungal infections (mycoses), though not as frequent as bacterial or viral infections, have nonetheless been increasing in incidence in the human population.
