Avidity of influenza-specific memory CD8+ T-cell populations decays over time compromising antiviral immunity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Decline of cell-mediated immunity is often attributed to decaying T-cell numbers and their distribution in peripheral organs. This study examined the hypothesis that qualitative as well as quantitative changes contribute to the declining efficacy of CD8+

Artificial Anti-HIV-1 Immunogen Comprising Epitopes of Broadly Neutralizing Antibodies 2F5, 10E8, and a Peptide Mimic of VRC01 Discontinuous Epitope

open access: yesVaccines, 2019
The construction of artificial proteins using conservative B-cell and T-cell epitopes is believed to be a promising approach for a vaccine design against diverse viral infections.

Improving B-cell epitope prediction

open access: yesDrug Discovery Today
The prediction of antibody binding residues of an antigen is essential for understanding the immune response mechanisms and advancing antibody therapeutics. By definition, each epitope is the binding site of a specific antibody; however, many prediction methods are antibody-agnostic, and thus need only the structure of the antigen.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Differential narrow focusing of immunodominant human immunodeficiency virus Gag-specific cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte responses in infected African and Caucasoid adults and children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) activity plays a central role in control of viral replication and in determining outcome in cases of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection.

Deep learning methods improve linear B-cell epitope prediction

open access: yesBioData Mining, 2020
Background B-cell epitopes play important roles in vaccine design, clinical diagnosis, and antibody production. Although some models have been developed to predict linear or conformational B-cell epitopes, their performance is still unsatisfactory ...

Multiplex Peptide-Based B Cell Epitope Mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
B cell epitope mapping is widely applied to determine antibody-binding sites. Several methods exist to map B cell epitopes and here we describe three methods that are characterized by the simultaneous analysis of multiple peptides. In the first approach a microarray of overlapping synthetic peptides derived from an antigenic protein is used and the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
