Bacteriolysis by a Species of Streptomyces [PDF]
SUMMARY: The lysis of dead Bacterium coli by concentrates prepared from filtrates of a Streptomyces sp. is probably due to proteolysis. In any event the lysis can be accounted for by proteolysis, even if the action of other bacteriolytic enzymes cannot be excluded.

SURGICAL AND NON-SURGICAL LASER PREPROSTHETIC PERIODONTAL PREPARATION. LOW-LEVEL LASER THERAPY AND PHOTOACTIVATED DISINFECTION [PDF]
Background: Clinical success and functional durability of indirect restorations depend on optimal dental health before the prosthetic treatment and the manipulation of the gingival tissues.

Dual Inhibitory Activity of Petroselinic Acid Enriched in Fennel Against Porphyromonas gingivalis
Increasing evidence has shown that a major periodontal pathobiont, Porphyromonas gingivalis, triggers oral dysbiosis leading to deterioration not only of periodontal health, but also of several systemic conditions.

Nanostructured surfaces can be engineered to kill bacteria in a contact-dependent manner. The study of bacterial interactions with a nanoscale topology is thus crucial to developing antibacterial surfaces.

Molecular basis of IRGB10 oligomerization and membrane association for pathogen membrane disruption
Ha et al. present a crystal structure of mouse IRGB10, a mouse interferon-inducible GTPase that mediates bacteriolysis in cell autonomous immunity. With further mutagenesis studies, they show that IRGB10 bound to GDP forms an inactive head-to-head dimer,

Mycobacteriophages in diagnosis and alternative treatment of mycobacterial infections
Antimicrobial resistance is an increasing threat to human populations. The emergence of multidrug-resistant “superbugs” in mycobacterial infections has further complicated the processes of curing patients, thereby resulting in high morbidity and ...

Listeria monocytogenes requires cellular respiration for NAD+ regeneration and pathogenesis
Cellular respiration is essential for multiple bacterial pathogens and a validated antibiotic target. In addition to driving oxidative phosphorylation, bacterial respiration has a variety of ancillary functions that obscure its contribution to ...
