Cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity
The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 1984Cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity is a distinct form of hypersensitivity reaction with a delayed-time course that is different from both the classic delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction and immediate hypersensitivity reaction. It occurs in humans, guinea pigs, and other animals. It may be induced by sensitization with a variety of antigens (viruses,

Basophils in incontinentia pigmenti
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1984Incontinentia pigmenti is a rare genodermatosis of unknown etiology. A female infant with features typical of this disease was found to have basophils in early vesicular lesions. Mediators from these cells may be responsible for the accumulation of eosinophils in these lesions.

The expanding universe of the basophil
Blood, 2009In this issue of Blood, Ohnmacht and Voehringer expand our view of the murine basophil, implicating these cells in eosinophilia and intestinal helminth rejection as well as determining the lifespan of basophils in both basal and inflammatory states.

Cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity
Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1976Cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity (CBH) is a distinct form of lymphocyte-mediated hypersensitivity in guinea pigs, separate both from classic delayed hypersensitivity (DH) and from the well-known antibody-mediated reactions. CBH, not DH, is the usual cellular immune response of this species to a wide variety of immunogens (e.g., allografts, certain ...

The absolute basophil count (cells/L) can be determined by manual counting of peripheral blood smears or using cell counting chambers as well as by automated hematology analyzers and fluorescence flow cytometry. Manual basophil counting of peripheral blood smears is currently regarded as the reference method, although the limitations of this method ...
