The Induction of Apoptosis by Resveratrol Through Regulatory Effect of miR-21 on the Gene Expression of Bcl2 and Bax in HCT-116 Cells [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Medical Biochemistry, 2019
Background: Resveratrol (RezV) which is found in several plants including grapes and types of berries has a vital role in inducing apoptosis and suppressing cell proliferation.

Phosphorylation switches Bax from promoting to inhibiting apoptosis thereby increasing drug resistance

open access: yesEMBO Reports, 2018
Akt is a pro‐survival kinase frequently activated in human cancers and is associated with more aggressive tumors that resist therapy. Here, we connect Akt pathway activation to reduced sensitivity to chemotherapy via Akt phosphorylation of Bax at residue

Designing the Next Generation of Biomaterials through Nanoengineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoengineering enables precise control over biomaterial interactions with living systems by tuning surface energy, defects, porosity, and crystallinity. This review highlights how these nanoscale design parameters drive advances in regenerative medicine, drug delivery, bioprinting, biosensing, and bioimaging, while outlining key translational ...

Application of cryo-electron microscopy for investigation of Bax-induced pores in apoptosis

open access: yesNanotechnology Reviews, 2017
Mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) is a critical step in apoptosis, the molecular mechanisms of which have been a subject of intensive study.

Reversal of Hyperglycemia and Suppression of Type 1 Diabetes in the NOD Mouse with Apoptotic DNA Immunotherapy™ (ADi™), ADi-100

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2020
The antigen-specific apoptotic DNA immunotherapeutic, ADi-100, is designed to suppress type 1 diabetes and consists of two DNA plasmids encoding genetic sequences of the apoptosis-inducing molecule, BAX, and the secreted form of the autoantigen, glutamic

The Bax pore in liposomes, Biophysics [PDF]

open access: yesCell Death & Differentiation, 2006
The protein BAX of the Bcl-2-family is felt to be one of the two Bcl-2-family proteins that directly participate in the mitochondrial cytochrome c-translocating pore. We have studied the kinetics, stoichiometry and size of the pore formed by BAX in planar lipid bilayers and synthetic liposomes.

In Situ Monitoring and Electrical Modulation of Cellular Behaviors Directly at the Cell–Electrode Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study presents a platform for simultaneous monitoring and electrical control of cellular responses at the cell–electrode interface. The platform delivers tunable yet uniform electrical cues to cells, revealing that optimal electrical stimulation (ES) conditions vary across cell types.

The peculiarities of eosinophil apoptosis damage in patients with severe therapy-resistant bronchial asthma

open access: yesБюллетень сибирской медицины, 2005
The study aim: to investigate the dynamics of transcription factor p53, proapoptoic (bax, bcl-XS), antiapoptotic (bcl-2, bcl-XL) effectors, IL-5 expression in peripheral blood eosinophils of patients with severe therapy-resistant bronchial asthma (BA ...

Release of Cytochrome C from Bax Pores at the Mitochondrial Membrane

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
How cytochrome C is released from the mitochondria to the cytosol via Bax oligomeric pores, a process which is required for apoptosis, is still a mystery.

Regulated Targeting of BAX to Mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Cell Biology, 1998
The proapoptotic protein BAX contains a single predicted transmembrane domain at its COOH terminus. In unstimulated cells, BAX is located in the cytosol and in peripheral association with intracellular membranes including mitochondria, but inserts into mitochondrial membranes after a death signal.
