Effects of acute exposure to increased plasma branched-chain amino acid concentrations on insulin-mediated plasma glucose turnover in healthy young subjects. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Plasma branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) are inversely related to insulin sensitivity of glucose metabolism in humans. However, currently, it is not known whether there is a cause-and-effect relationship between increased plasma BCAA concentrations and ...

Enhanced Endophytic Colonization of Flavobacterium Promotes Plant Resistance to Fusarium Wilt

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A natural microbial consortium employing a cross‐feeding strategy forms a stratified biofilm that promotes endophytic colonization of auxotrophic Flavobacterium. This enhanced colonization activates plant systemic resistance, effectively suppressing Fusarium wilt.

Bioenergetic Materials for Tissue Regeneration: Modulating Metabolism to Promote Cellular Anabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bioenergetic materials (BEMs) modulate cellular metabolism to promote tissue regeneration. Their principal mechanisms of action include metabolic substrate supplementation, metabolic enzyme modulation, organelle transfer, electrical current regulation, redox homeostasis modulation, and oxygen tension modulation.

Developing Metal–Polyphenol Network‐Based Single‐Protein Particle Encapsulation System for Sustained Release of Whey Protein to Mitigate Sarcopenia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sarcopenia has emerged as a major health challenge in the aging population. Developing a sustained‐release system for whey protein may enhance its effectiveness in mitigating sarcopenia. Herein, a novel “single‐protein particle encapsulation” (SPPE) system is developed to protect whey protein and control its release.

Branched-chain amino acid restriction in Zucker-fatty rats improves muscle insulin sensitivity by enhancing efficiency of fatty acid oxidation and acyl-glycine export

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2016
Objective: A branched-chain amino acid (BCAA)-related metabolic signature is strongly associated with insulin resistance and predictive of incident diabetes and intervention outcomes.

Single‐Nucleus Transcriptomic Atlas of Human Vellus Hair Pilosebaceous Units Reveals Age‐Associated Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human vellus pilosebaceous units (PSUs) remain uncharted. This single‐nucleus atlas reveals coordinated remodeling of the aging PSU niche: reduced bulge stem cell representation with altered regenerative programs, increased representation of a stress‐responsive channel+ epithelial state, enhanced androgen‐responsive sebaceous programs, reduced ...

Controlled branched-chain amino acids auxotrophy in Listeria monocytogenes allows isoleucine to serve as a host signal and virulence effector. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2018
Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) is a saprophyte and intracellular pathogen. Transition to the pathogenic state relies on sensing of host-derived metabolites, yet it remains unclear how these are recognized and how they mediate virulence gene regulation.

Metabolic flexibility via mitochondrial BCAA carrier SLC25A44 is required for optimal fever

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Importing necessary metabolites into the mitochondrial matrix is a crucial step of fuel choice during stress adaptation. Branched chain-amino acids (BCAAs) are essential amino acids needed for anabolic processes, but they are also imported into the ...

The liver‐brain axis: A multidimensional regulatory network implicated in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis and clinical implications

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram of the core pathways of the liver‐brain axis in regulating AD. The liver regulates cerebral Aβ deposition, tau phosphorylation, and neuroinflammation through pathways such as metabolic detoxification (urea cycle, ketone body metabolism, glutathione antioxidant system), molecular secretion (APOE, CRP, FGF21, IGF‐1), and Aβ clearance ...
