The lighter side of BDNF

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 2011
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mediates energy metabolism and feeding behavior. As a neurotrophin, BDNF promotes neuronal differentiation, survival during early development, adult neurogenesis, and neural plasticity; thus, there is the potential that BDNF could modify circuits important to eating behavior and energy expenditure.

Bubble Formation Control: Fabrication of Centimeter‐Sized Tissue‐Like Constructs by Catalase‐Coated Oxygen‐Releasing Hydrogel

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Oxygen‐releasing hydrogels are widely used to support cell survival in 3D cultures and to promote wound healing. However, incorporating catalase to convert H2O2 into O2 often generates additional oxygen bubbles, leading to material instability which rarely addressed.

A role for a novel natural antisense-BDNF in the maintenance of nicotine-seeking

open access: yes, 2022
Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is critical for the extinction of drug-seeking. Expression of the Bdnf gene is highly epigenetically regulated, including via interactions with non-coding RNA.

An Accessible Microfluidic Platform for the Generation of Polarized Brain Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents an accessible double‐gradient microfluidic device that enables controlled morphogen delivery and spatially polarized differentiation in brain organoids. By integrating a pump‐free design and stable fabrication method, the platform generates dorsal–ventral neuronal asymmetry, offering a reproducible and versatile approach to model ...

The mimetic of the brain neurotrophic factor GSB-106 has neuroprotective and neuroregenerative effects in experimental ischemic stroke

open access: yesФармакокинетика и Фармакодинамика, 2022
Background. A dimeric dipeptide mimetic of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor loop 4, bis(N-monosuccinyl-L-seryl-L-lysine) hexamethylenediamide (GSB-106), which activates TrkB, PI3K/AKT, MAPK/ERK and PLC-γ1 was created at the V. V.

Electroacupuncture Improves the Learning and Memory by Modulating Hippocampal Glucose Metabolism through IGF1/IGF1R Signaling in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electroacupuncture (EA) ameliorates learning and memory function in 5×FAD mice by regulating the brain glucose metabolic network. This neuroprotective effect is closely related to enhancing neuronal energy utilization via the IGF1/IGF1R signaling pathway.

BDNF gene methylation in brain of suicide subjects

open access: yes, 2009
: Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of suicidal behaviour and BDNF levels are decreased in brain and plasma of suicide subjects.

BDNF-TrkB Signaling in Lifelong Central Nervous System Myelination and Myelin Repair

open access: yes, 2021
Myelin, the lipid membrane that wraps around nerves, is a critical component of the peripheral (PNS) and central nervous systems (CNS) that enables rapid neurotransmission and is critical for brain function, including motor skill acquisition and working ...

Paternal Circadian Disruption Impairs Offspring Cognition via Sperm microRNAs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Paternal circadian disruption remodels the sperm small RNA payload, elevating miR‐92a‐3p/miR‐25‐3p levels and perturbing early embryonic gene regulatory programs. Microinjection experiments and single‐embryo transcriptomics reveal sex‐specific developmental vulnerabilities, ultimately impairing offspring hippocampal synaptic plasticity and cognition ...
