Intestinal epithelial CGAS dampens inflammation by upregulating autophagy

open access: yesAutophagy Reports, 2022
The pathogenesis of intestinal inflammation involves a complex network of cell signaling pathways. CGAS (cyclic GMP-AMP synthase) is a cytoplasmic DNA sensor that is most known for upregulating interferon-mediated inflammation.

Hypoxia-Induced Autophagy Is Involved in Radioresistance via HIF1A-Associated Beclin-1 in Glioblastoma Multiforme

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Radioresistance is the major factor of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) treatment failure and relapse. Hypoxia and autophagy are linked to radioresistance and poor prognosis in solid tumors, but mechanisms remain unknown.

Expression of beclin-1 in the microenvironment of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast: correlation with prognosis and the cancer-stromal interaction. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
We examined the pathobiological properties of beclin-1, which is a key regulator of autophagosome formation in invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast, with a particular focus on the cancer microenvironment.

Targeting Beclin 1 for viral subversion of macroautophagy [PDF]

open access: yesAutophagy, 2010
We have recently characterized that influenza A virus blocks autophagosome degradation via its matrix protein 2. Matrix protein 2 seems to achieve this macroautophagy inhibition not by its well-characterized proton channel function, but possibly due to its binding to Atg6/Beclin 1, thereby enhancing the death of its host cell.

Beclin-1–Dependent Autophagy Improves Outcomes of Pneumonia-Induced Sepsis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2021
ObjectiveWe previously demonstrated that promoting Beclin-1–dependent autophagy is cardiac protective during endotoxemia shock, suggesting that autophagy-based approaches may become a promising therapeutic strategy for sepsis.

An autophagy-independent function of Beclin 1 in cancer [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular & Cellular Oncology, 2015
The involvement of Beclin 1 in cancer has been attributed primarily to its role in autophagy initiation. Our recent findings identify a novel, alternative mechanism by which Beclin 1 can impact tumor progression, through the regulation of growth factor receptor signaling.

Intensified Beclin-1 Mediated by Low Expression of Mir-30a-5p Promotes Chemoresistance in Human Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2017
Background/Aims: Although small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is sensitive to initial chemotherapy, patients experience tumor recurrence and metastasis, leading to treatment failure.

Upregulation of Beclin 1 in the ischemic penumbra [PDF]

open access: yesAutophagy, 2008
Here we discuss the probable role of autophagy in cerebral ischemia based on our own recent data and the literature. We examined the protein level of Beclin 1 (Bcl-2 interacting protein) and microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) which were previously found to promote autophagy.

Expression of Beclin 1 in Bladder Cancer and Its Clinical Significance

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 2013
Background The aim of this study is to explore the expression of beclin 1, an autophagy gene, in bladder cancer and to evaluate its clinical and prognostic significance in patients with bladder cancer. Methods Beclin 1 expression was examined at mRNA and

The stress-responsive kinases MAPKAPK2/MAPKAPK3 activate starvation-induced autophagy through Beclin 1 phosphorylation

open access: yeseLife, 2015
Autophagy is a fundamental adaptive response to amino acid starvation orchestrated by conserved gene products, the autophagy (ATG) proteins. However, the cellular cues that activate the function of ATG proteins during amino acid starvation are ...
