Time course sensor‐based phenotyping can predict Ascochyta blight disease severity in Cicer species

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Ascochyta blight is a widely occurring chickpea fungal disease that can cause severe yield loss. Breeding for crop resistance benefits from high‐throughput evaluation of plant–pathogen interactions in genotypes which can serve as sources of resistance.

Plant‐Derived Probiotics From Fermented Foods: Current Evidence on Antiviral Mechanisms and Gut–Lung Axis Modulation

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 6, November 2026.
Plant‐derived probiotics from fermented foods exert anti‐respiratory virus effects via immune regulation, antiviral metabolites, and gut–lung axis, highlighting their advantages, key technologies, and application prospects. ABSTRACT Respiratory viral infections represent a major global public health threat, causing widespread morbidity, mortality, and ...

The Accuracy of Equity Analysts’ Earnings Per Share Forecasts of Agribusinesses and Sugar‐Using Firms

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT This study evaluates equity analysts’ earnings forecasts, comparing United States (U.S.) sugar‐using firms (SUF), and a selected group of agribusinesses (AGB). Aspects of U.S. sugar policy, reinitiated in 1982, help to ensure a reliable and predictable domestic supply of SUF's primary ingredient, sugar. U.S.

Tracking Sodium Inside the Plant: Hydraulic Adjustments to Deal With Salinity

open access: yesJournal of Agronomy and Crop Science, Volume 212, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Sorghum is a crop that has become more relevant in recent years due to its uses and properties (biofuel, gluten‐free flour) as well as its versatility to grow in unfavourable environmental conditions. Salinity is one of the main abiotic stresses affecting crop production and yield worldwide.

Soil Silicon Application Alleviates Drought Stress in Sugar Beet (Beta vulgaris L.)

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, Volume 189, Issue 5, Page 746-762, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background: The increasing frequency and intensity of drought events have led to yield and quality losses in sugar beet production in temperate regions in Central Europe. Under arid conditions, silicon (Si) application reduced beet yield losses under drought. Similar data for temperate climates are missing.

Pro‐197 mutations confer resistance to thiencarbazone but not to foramsulfuron in ALS‐resistant Poa annua populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 10134-10146, October 2026.
Foramsulfuron remains effective on Pro‐197 Poa annua, but co‐formulation with thiencarbazone reduces efficacy due to limited activity and antagonism. Therefore, foramsulfuron + thiencarbazone should be used in fields without ALS‐resistant weeds to ensure effective in‐crop control.

Optimizing the carbon‐to‐nitrogen ratio in biofloc technology enhances growth performance, reproductive output, and nutritional quality of the brine shrimp A. parthenogenetica

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract This study evaluated the effects of dietary carbon‐to‐nitrogen (C/N) conditions, generated by combining Dunaliella salina with sugar beet raffinate, on the growth, survival, reproductive performance, biochemical composition, fatty‐acid profile, digestive enzyme activity, microbial community, and biomass production of Artemia parthenogenitica ...

A factorial multi‐layer analysis reveals non‐additive sulfur–iron interactions shaping metabolic and transcriptional responses in durum wheat

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 252, Issue 1, Page 192-208, October 2026.
Working model of S‐dependent Fe stress integration in durum wheat. S availability acts as the main factor defining the metabolic and transcriptional state of the plant, whereas Fe mainly affects the intensity of these responses. This is particularly evident for OAS, methionine, citrate and asparagine, which accumulated most strongly under combined S ...

RNA‐Guided Engineering of the Chloroplast Genome Enabled by Plastid‐Expressed Guide RNAs

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 10, Page 5498-5509, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Our goal is to develop RNA‐guided engineering of the chloroplast genome using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. We designed chloroplast minigenes to obtain properly sized single guide RNAs (sgRNAs) in tobacco chloroplasts. The sgRNA 5′ end is defined by transcription from an rRNA operon promoter, and its 3′ end by processing a downstream tRNA (trnG) or ...
